WWE Battleground 2016 full results: Watch matches with video highlights

With some exciting matches on the card, the 2016 edition of WWE Battleground was solid to make a proper build up towards the biggest pay-per-view of the summer i.e. Summerslam. The pay-per-view took place at the Verizon Center in Washington, DC. This was the last PPV before Raw and Smackdown goes separate from tomorrow night. Since the brand split has just been over, a lot was expected from it and it lived up to the same. A dream match with the former Shield members happened at the main event and it was spectacular. Here’re the highlights of the evening.

Sasha Banks & Bayley def. WWE Women’s Champion Charlotte & Dana Brooke
The legit boss went into war against the Women’s champion and her protégé, Dana Brooke. With the beatdown she suffered for the last couple of weeks, Sasha got Bayley from NXT by her side and knocked out the team of Charlotte and Dana. Bayley took out Dana from the picture to help Sasha lock in the Bank Statement on the champion and pick up the win.
The Wyatt Family def. WWE Tag Team Champions The New Day
The power of positivity was not strong enough, this time, to give New Day with the victory. After all the combined resistance from the tag champs, Wyatt distracted Woods with his spider walk and caught him with the Sister Abigail. With this win, The Wyatts are going to get a title match at Summerslam.
Rusev (c) def. Zack Ryder
It was evident that Ryder will be a no match up with the strength of the Bulgarian Brute. So after man handling Ryder, Rusev made him tap out to retain the US title. After the win, Rusev continued the attack to Ryder which forced his NXT partner Mojo Rawley to run down the ramp to make the save.
Sami Zayn def. Kevin Owens
The match between these two life-time enemies lived up to all the hypes. They delivered a showdown which can easily be counted as the Match of the Year candidate. Following a Dragon Suplex, Zayn connected with two Helluva kicks to Owens to win the bout. The crowd gave a standing ovation to both of them as appreciation.
Natalya def. Becky Lynch
A back-and-forth contest took place between the former friends. This rivalry is built to take Becky to the next level. So it was thought Becky should pick up the win. But since Natalya trapped Becky in the Sharpshooter to make her tap out, they are going to continue with the rivalry till Summerslam.
The Miz (c) vs. Darren Young ended in a double disqualification
The Miz retained the title as usual by help from her wife, Maryse. Bob Backlund was slapped in the face by Miz’s wife which started a chaos outside the ring. After shoving off Backlund, Miz was back into the ring to get locked into the Crossface Chickenwinger from Young but in the meantime, the referee counted the Miz out. So, by rules of count out, Miz retained the title.
John Cena, Enzo Amore & Big Cass def. The Club
John Cena came up with a much-needed win against Styles with the help from Enzo and Cass. After Enzo and Cass neutralized Gallows and Anderson from the interference, Cena sent Styles into the turnbuckle and connected with the Attitude Adjustment to gain the pinfall.
Hosted by Chris Jericho and featuring the return of Randy Orton
After being out from the WWE universe for a shoulder injury, Randy Orton returned to the squared circle after 9 months. He appeared on the Chris Jericho’s Highlight Reel to speak about his match against Brock Lesnar at Summerslam. This was the start of the build up for the huge match at Summerslam. Orton even took a shot Lesnar for failing the drug tests. For much delight to the crowd, Orton connected with an “RKO outta nowhere” on Jericho to finish the segment.
Dean Ambrose (c) vs. Seth Rollins vs. Roman Reigns
The former Shield members competed in a triple threat match for the WWE Championship at Battleground. There was an X-factor of Roman Reigns who returned to WWE at Battleground. After a brawl that was all over the ringside, it was Dean Ambrose who was able to connect with his Dirty Deeds and retain his championship. The Smackdown locker room along with the leaders Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan came down the ramp to congratulate the champion.
