WWE: Clash Of Champions 2017 – Match Card, Preview and Prediction

Arindam Paul / 17 December 2017

It is going to be the second-ever event in the WWE Clash of Champions PPV chronology. Previously, WWE used to host the Night of Champions event until last year; they decided to replace it with a WCW event. The PPV was rescheduled, as well got shifted from September to December which is why it is the last PPV of this year.

There will be two main events for the night. In the first one, the WWE Championship will be on the line between AJ Styles and Jinder Mahal. The second one can change the course of the blue brand, as careers will be on the line. Smackdown authority figures will act as special guest referees in the tag team match between Owens-Zayn against Orton-Nakamura.

The brand-exclusive PPV is scheduled to be hosted at the TD Gardens in Boston, Massachusetts. It will also be the first time that a PPV except the ‘big-four’ will be telecasted live in India from tomorrow 6.30 AM onwards. Here is the match card with predictions:

Mojo Rawley vs Zack Ryder
Prediction: WWE creative team has not been able to hype-up this match between two friends-turned-foes. Hence, the audience will be interested less into this. Mojo Rawley will pick up the win to move along in his career leaving behind the Hype Bros team, forever in this kick-off match.

Dolph Ziggler vs Bobby Roode vs Baron Corbin (Triple Threat Match for WWE United States Title)
Prediction: The inclusion of Dolph Ziggler and Bobby Roode into this triple threat match will make this contest worth a watch, for sure. However, no title change is expected, till now since both of them need to have some momentum by their side before becoming the actual champion. Corbin is likely to steal a victory in this No-DQ contest.

Rusev & Aiden English vs The New Day vs Shelton Benjamin & Chad Gable vs The Usos (Fatal 4 Way Match for the SmackDown Tag Team Titles)
Prediction: There are chances that Rusev and Aiden English turn out to be the new tag team champions once this match at Clash of Champions gets over. They are extremely entertaining as a tag team and have all the momentums by their side by defeating The Usos on Smackdown. So, by using the rules of this no-DQ match, the heel duo is likely to become the new champions.

The Bludgeon Brothers vs Breezango
We don’t need any predictions for this match since The Bludgeon Brothers will bulldoze their way to victory by demolishing the tag team featuring Tyler Breeze and Fandango.

Natalya vs Charlotte Flair (Lumberjack Match for SmackDown Women’s Title)
Prediction: Being a Lumberjack match, the other roster members of the women’s division will make their presence felt by attacking the champion, Charlotte Flair. It might pave the way for Carmella, the Money in the Bank briefcase holder to cash it in big-time during or after the match. It would be a golden opportunity to come out as the new champion following Clash of Champions.

AJ Styles vsJinder Mahal (WWE Championship Match)
The title will not change hands considering that AJ Styles will enter 2018 as the reigning champion on his way to Wrestlemania. However, fallout is expected from this matchup that will culminate the last match in this feud which is likely to take place in the last Smackdown Live episode of 2017 on December 26th.

Special Guest Referees: SmackDown Commissioner Shane McMahon and General Manager Daniel Bryan
Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens vs Randy Orton and Shinsuke Nakamura. (If Owens & Sami lose the match they will be fired from WWE)
Going by the upcoming live event bookings from WWE, it’s almost certain that Owens and Zayn will not get fired from the company. But, instead this match will work as the inducer for a potential match between Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan who are likely to work against each other in this main event tag team match. One of them will be successful at Clash of Champions fuelling up the rivalry between the authority figures.
