Roman Reigns getting ruled out of WWE Day 1 was not the only big blow for the company, last night. Apart from the main-eventer’s COVID-19 related absence, two Smackdown superstars apparently suffered injuries that put up questions around their future appearances on WWE television.
WWE has announced that Drew McIntyre suffered multiple injuries during the inaugural WWE Day 1 pay-per-view. In the scheduled matchup, McIntyre defeated Madcap Moss in singles action despite Happy Baron Corbin providing distractions from ringside.

Following the win, McIntyre was interviewed backstage until Moss and Corbin attacked him from behind. He tried to fight the two heels on his own but then a steel chair came into play. Moss and Corbin then wrapped the chair around McIntyre’s head while he was down. Corbin instructed Moss to wrap the chair around McIntyre’s head, and then “Pillmanize” him with a piece of the lighting rig and that’s exactly what happened.
Moss and Corbin then fled away from the scene as officials called for a medic to check on McIntyre. In an update after WWE Day 1, it was announced after the pay-per-view that the top Smackdown Superstar suffered a cervical neck strain with severe contusions during the backstage attack. It was also noted that upon further evaluation by WWE medical staff, the former WWE Champion will also have a follow-up with an orthopedic cervical specialist.

McIntyre could be out for weeks after WWE Day 1
A cervical neck strain generally takes several days to several weeks to get recovered, depending on the severity. However, it’s yet to be seen whether this is just part of the storylines, or if WWE used the backstage attack angle to write off McIntyre for some time.
In more news from WWE Day 1, Ridge Holland suffered a broken nose during last night’s Kickoff pre-show. In the scheduled tag team match, Holland and Sheamus took on Cesaro and Ricochet. During the match, Cesaro helped Ricochet flip onto Holland for a pin attempt, but Ricochet’s boot landed flat on Holland’s face, leaving Holland’s nose busted open.
Holland rolled to the floor as he had to be checked on by a WWE medic as Sheamus himself continued the match. Holland never returned to the match as he was taken to the backstage area for further evaluation. The superstar continued to be treated for a broken nose as Sheamus picked up the win at WWE Day 1 by pinning Cesaro with a Brogue Kick.
