WWE Extreme Rules Match Card, Preview, Prediction and Analysis

For one night only in their schedule of the year, WWE goes Extreme in every match and we are going to witness it on this Sunday at the Extreme Rules pay-per-view. At Payback 2016 the main event between Roman Reigns and AJ Styles turned out to be an utter chaos with restarts, interferences which left the McMahons with no choice to announce an official rematch with the extreme rules stipulation. Also, as a show stealer, we have got a first ever Asylum match between Ambrose and Jericho. The card also includes a fatal-4-way match for the Intercontinental championship involving Cesaro, Zayn, Owens and the champion, Miz. The women’s championship match has an added submission stipulation where Natalya gets one more chance to the championship. Let me break down each of the match cards and offer predictions for the entire match card of the roster.

The New Day (c) vs. The Vaudevillains (WWE Tag Team Championship)

It was such a pitiful incident to watch Enzo Amore getting stuck between the middle and bottom ropes and carried away with a stretcher at WWE Payback. Though it was an accident, WWE is going to make a storyline out of it, predictably. The match will be a good one with the by-gone era specialists on the verge to win when Enzo and Cass’ music will hit to get a huge pop and causing a distraction to them. The New Day will retain by the help and the Vaudevillians will go on to make an intense rivalry with Enzo and Cass.

Charlotte (c) vs. Natalya (Submission Match for the WWE Women’s Championship; Ric Flair is banned from ringside)

Natalya was granted the rematch after the Chicago “screw-job.” Charlotte is even screwed before the match as his father who helped her in almost each of her title defenses, is banned from the ringside. With things being even, the match is a submissions match with both the ladies having their pendant submissions move in their arsenal, which potentially makes the match a technical one. Though Charlotte will definitely come with a plan-B and try to screw Nattie once again, but this time, she has to tap out in the sharpshooter costing the championship, finally.

The Miz (c) (with Maryse) vs. Kevin Owens vs. Cesaro vs. Sami Zayn (Fatal-4-Way Intercontinental championship)

The fallouts from the Payback PPV resulted in setting up this Fatal-4-way show-stealer. Owens power-bombed Zayn for the win and the aftermath brawl between them helped Miz to escape with the title. All these four men have involved to the title picture since then and now a part of the match. With such technically gifted athletes competing in the same contest would be heck of a fight after which we will see Cesaro as the new Intercontinental champion. Zayn eventually will cost Owens in the match which will lead their rivalry, further.

Kalisto (c) vs. Rusev (with Lana) (WWE United States Championship)

Kalisto is worth a watch in the ring, but every time he came up with a mic, his lack of skills comes to visibility. This is the reason, probably, creative is thinking to pair him with a lady. Now, his title has been pretty lackluster due to thin storylines and the title run should end at the Extreme Rules as the hungry Rusev is waiting to get back what once was synonymous with him. Lana for sure will help his fiancée by creating a distraction and Rusev will take the fullest advantage of it.

The Usos vs. The Club (Texas Tornado tag team match)

We have seen this bout for over and over again in the last weeks. The only new thing is the added stipulation which means four competitors will be in the ring at the same time. Both the teams are incredible in the ring and this will prove to be a good but repetitive match. The club will pick up the victory to set their sights on the New Day for the tag team championship, the next night on Monday Night Raw.

Dolph Ziggler vs. Baron Corbin (No Disqualification Match)

With Ziggler picking up a surprise win via a roll-up at Payback will fume up the Lone Wolf and he is favorite in the match, provided with the stipulation. Ziggler has given his hands full with the task of jobber by the creative which is so disgusting to see and he had no option but to lose to the rookie. Corbin will punish Ziggler for the entire match up and Ziggler will hang on with the resiliency but will come up short by an End of Days.

Dean Ambrose vs. Chris Jericho (Asylum Match)

Man, this will be a slobber knocker, to say the least, and it will happen with a brand new stipulation. We just can’t wait to see Ambrose rolled into the Asylum which belongs to him. The structure gives the vibe of that old school Lockdown vibe, which is so great. Ambrose has trapped Jericho inside the trap and weapons are easy to get if you can climb up to the roof. All in all, the “Cage of Death” will be waiting for us as Ambrose comes out the cage as the winner after a crazy fight inside the Asylum and thereby sending Jericho to a vacation, once again.

Roman Reigns (c) vs. AJ Styles (WWE World Heavyweight Championship – Extreme Rules Match)

Now, the bout between Reigns and Styles will happen in an Extreme Rules match as Reigns will look to shove off the problem that has been troubling him for quite a while. The respective tag team buddies for both of them will eventually be handy during the bout whereas the weapons such as tables, chairs, kendo sticks, trash cans and most importantly announce tables will be used as the toys. Reigns will eventually overcome the Club and emerge victorious by any means. Rollins is scheduled for his return to starting the unfinished beef with Reigns whereas Styles may be sent back to the mid card pictures unless WWE wants to drag the feud till Money in the Bank PPV.
