WWE News: AJ Styles is Upset Over the Ongoing Feud with Kevin Owens

Arindam Paul / 11 August 2017

The feud between AJ Styles and Kevin Owens has been going on ever since the latter had moved to Smackdown as part of the Superstar Shakeup. The shifting process of certain superstars was held back in the month of April to make things interesting in both the brands. They are going against each other over the United States Championship since then.

We have already seen multiple matches between these two superstars which made the storyline a bit stale. Initially, it was supposed to be a dream bout between these two extremely veteran indie scene wrestlers. However, a dud match at the Battleground PPV and an abrupt title change have been considered as the sole reason for the crowd not backing up the rivalry, anymore.

During the PPV match, Styles walked into the bout as the brand new champion who just won it at a live event in the Madison Square Garden. The crowd did not expect him to drop the title to the prizefighter, at all. However, Owens stole the championship via clean pinfall which was the reason of the crowd getting upset.

According to the reports of WrestlingNews.co, AJ Styles was also not happy with this outcome of the match. The source suggested that the result of the match was not made up even prior to the match. It was communicated to the referee half-way into the match who would let know the competitors the same, personally.

However, Dave Meltzer from Wrestling Observer previously reported that the finish was a major botch, as Styles abruptly digested the pinfall leading to his unhappiness. Once that happened, Chris Jericho was brought back to the equation in order to build up a triple threat match so that Styles can win back the title on the very next episode of Smackdown Live.

The Phenomenal One should be pleased now that he does have the US title around his waist. However, due to lack of response from the crowd, the creative team was forced to add another stipulation in the upcoming edition of Styles vs. Owens match at Summerslam. The Smackdown Commissioner, Shane McMahon will be the special guest referee for this bout to make things interesting and come up with a fair and square decision.
