The NXT Takeover event has become a pleasant tradition for the WWE Universe that sets the tone high for the dual brand PPVs on Sunday nights.

For each of the ‘big-four’ PPV events of a year, the NXT brand comes up with this special show that features several championship matches. Since NXT superstars are given freedom while performing in the ring, they come up with earthshattering actions.

The next NXT Takeover event will be hosted at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on January 27th, i.e. just the night before the Royal Rumble PPV. The main event of the night has been declared which will get contested for the NXT Championship. Cien Andrade Almas will defend his title for the first time against Johnny Gargano.

Recently, two more championship matches were added to the card to make it even more stacked. In recent NXT tapings, the tag team championship match and the Women’s Championship match were also set up by the general manager of NXT, William Regal.

Currently, the Undisputed Era, Bobby Fish, and Kyle O’Reilly are the reigning tag team champions. They were looking for the contenders of the titles, in recent times. To address this, a match was set up on this past edition of WWE NXT against the Street Profit.

The match turned out to be a one-way match in favour of the Authors of Pain who is now set to face The Undisputed Era at the NXT Takeover, Philadelphia. It was perhaps to portray their dominant run ahead of this championship match against a faction that dominated the NXT scene ever since the debut.

The second match came up after an attack from Shayna Baszler. Lacey Evans defeated Aliyah in a singles contest to lay her down in the middle of the ring. Shayna showed up, all of a sudden to appear inside the ring and make her choke out.

The NXT women’s champion, Ember Moon also arrived on the scene challenging her for a title match. Since Shayna was not ready for a match at that time, the GM made the match official for next Saturday night. This will be first-time that Moon will defend the title after winning it back in November.
