It was all retribution time for Kofi Kingston on SmackDown Live as he was finally able to put away Randy Orton taking us back to ten years ago. The WWE Champion was all emotional coming out on the show and cutting a promo saying that it feels good to be back at the MSG as fans pop. Kofi added that this will forever be a special place to him because it’s where he stepped up against a top guy to prove that he belongs to the main event level.
We also saw footage of Kofi Kingston beating down Randy Orton all around the Madison Square Garden arena, ten years ago. The Viper soon appeared to the ring calling him stupid and starting a brawl. He gained the upper-hand by unloading some chair shots on Kofi who countered a DDT attempt. He delivered some chair shots of his own and set up a table as per the request of the fans. He then leaped off the staircase through the table on Orton, the similar way he did, ten years ago. This is the first time in three weeks that Kofi stood tall over his Clash of Champions opponent.

Last night has not only marked the return of WWE to the Madison Square Garden for two consecutive nights. It also created a comeback moment for the WWE Champion at the infamous arena that kicked off his pro-wrestling journey. It was at the same venue where he placed himself to the map by pulling off an incredible performance against Randy Orton. Ten years later, he was out for redemption against the same opponent, (courtesy wwe.com)
“When SmackDown LIVE emanates from Madison Square Garden this Tuesday night, it will also mark Kingston’s return to the location that put him on the map. In a truly full-circle moment, Kofi’s incredible journey will bring him to back to MSG, where he memorably smashed Randy Orton through a table in 2009, as he now once again engages in an ongoing battle with The Viper. What will Kingston’s return to The World’s Most Famous Arena bring? And how will the WWE Champion respond to The Apex Predator’s recent attacks on The New Day just five nights before he and Orton collide for the WWE Title at WWE Clash of Champions?”
For the past few weeks, Randy Orton and his newly found allies in the form of The Revival dominated the Smackdown scene. With Xavier Woods out with an injury, the number games were not in favor of the New Day, anyways. So the work became easy for The Viper and co. as they continued to deliver beatdowns on Kofi Kingston. So we expected him to seek redemption on last night and that’s exactly how it turned out to be.
