He understood that Kevin Owens is targeting the WWE Championship and self-declared himself into the title defense. Kofi Kingston announced having no problems to put his title on the line at Money in the Bank which WWE.com approved with the following statements,

“At WWE Money in the Bank, the Power of Positivity will clash head-on with the full brunt of KO’s wrath when WWE Champion Kofi Kingston takes on Kevin Owens. Owens has made his statement: It’s a new day for KO … and the plans for that day only include winning the WWE Championship. Now Kingston will surely be out for payback – but will Owens prove that the new titleholder is truly over his head as WWE Champion? Don’t miss WWE Money in the Bank, streaming live May 19 at 7 ET / 4 PT on WWE Network.”

Kevin Owens continued showing his ruthless side by attacking Xavier Woods on Smackdown on the opening sequences of the show. Kofi Kingston did manage to get the payback on the main event segment by putting his hand on KO. But the challenger escaped the scene raking his eyes. This feud has become quite personal for now that will continue for weeks to come.

Kofi Kingston won the WWE Championship at this year’s Wrestlemania which the fans also dubbed as Kofi-Mania. After waiting for 11 long years, one of the most hard-working superstars of WWE has received a chance to challenge for the most coveted prize of the sports entertainment. Obviously, the fans’ sentiment was with him making the championship match a successful outing for him.

Following that win, Kofi Kingston had some good times on Smackdown along with his two partners from The New Day. But Big E injured himself that left a void in the faction. Kevin Owens volunteered himself for that spot and surprised us by joining the faction. For a couple of weeks, he went through the fun antics of his new partners before turning on them, last week.

In a shocking turn of events, Kevin Owens blasted Kofi Kingston from behind with a blindside attack. The ambush continued for sometimes before Xavier Woods came for Kofi’s help. But a pop-up powerbomb on the apron hurt Woods badly. It was nothing new for Owens as he did the same to his friends in the past. So we were interested to see what Kofi Kingston had to offer in this regard. Like a fighting champion, he decided to put his title on the line at Money in the Bank setting up his first PPV title defense.
