The new arrivals of WWE Raw were up for a treat as the show began last night. In the opening sequence of the show, we got to know about two triple threat matches. The winners of those matches will compete in the main event of the show. The ultimate winner of the contest would go on to face Seth Rollins at the Money in the Bank pay-per-view event in four weeks.
The first match would witness WWE United States Champion and new WWE Raw signee Samoa Joe taking on AJ Styles and Rey Mysterio. The second triple threat match will see Baron Corbin competing against The Miz and Drew McIntyre. The respective winners of these matches will feature in the main event of the show later the night.
Triple H kicked off the show addressing Seth Rollins for his Wrestlemania win. The former Kingslayer has become a Beast-slayer who now possess a huge chip on the shoulder. Everybody on the WWE Raw roster would target him for the title and he found it soon. All the six participants of the respective two triple threats surround the ring to prove their point on why he should become the new number one contender for the Universal Championship.
The first triple threat was underway as the opening contest of WWE Raw with the lineup being Samoa Joe vs. Rey Mysterio vs. AJ Styles. Mysterio missed a 619 attempt as Joe put him into the Coquina Clutch. But Styles soon broke that up. Mysterio still hit the 619 on him but missed the splash. AJ Styles caught him with a powerbomb followed by a Styles Clash on Joe. He pinned Joe to pick up the win and emerge to the main event match.
Baron Corbin vs. The Miz vs. Drew McIntyre was the second triple threat lineup on WWE Raw. McIntyre was in full.control of the match hitting a slam on the Miz and calling for the Future Shock DDT. But Miz countered with a DDT. He also planed Corbin with another DDT and called for the Skull Crushing Finale. But McIntyre caught him with a Claymore Kick. Corbin came from behind and shoved him off the ring. He stole the pinfall win from McIntyre to head onto the main event match.
AJ Styles vs. Baron Corbin was the number one contender’s match on WWE Raw for the Universal Championship. Corbin was in control putting down Styles with a big boot until the Phenomenal One came back with the Calf Crusher. Corbin got himself out of the hold by smashing Styles’ head into the mat. He jumped to hurt Styles who moved out of the way and delivered a Phenomenal Forearm for the win. He will AJ Styles will now Seth Rollins for the WWE Universal Championship at WWE Money in the Bank on May 19.
Seth Rollins won the Universal Championship at Wrestlemania 35 slaying the beast incarnate Brock Lesnar. This man is most probably a UFC-bound superstar as summer 2019 approaches. So there’s no such expectation to see him back in the WWE, at least for now that wiped out the chances of seeing a rematch between Seth Rollins and Brock Lesnar.
This brought in the chance of seeing a new challenger against Seth Rollins on Monday Night Raw. He is a fighting champion on the flagship show to bring the title each week on the flagship show. So he needs a regular opponent from the roster to prove his potential as the strong Universal Champion. Even WWE.com also hinted a new opponent waiting for him prior to WWE Raw. Finally, it turned out to be a dream match between AJ Styles and Seth Rollins that the WWE Universe was waiting for a long time.
