The elimination match to determine the new number one contender for the United States title was underway. Two quick elimination followed in the form of Cesaro and Lashley as they suffered Running Powerslams from Strowman. But they caused the monster his spot by distraction allowing Ricochet to eliminate him via a 630-splash. The Miz got him under the Figure four leglock but he got out of it and hit a Codebreaker followed by another 630-splash for the win. This earned Ricochet a title opportunity against Samoa Joe at Stomping Grounds.

The United States Championship has been a topic of discussion ever since Money in the Bank passed by. The title changed hands in the midst of controversy as Samoa Joe had his shoulder up during the pinfall count. Then the winner, Rey Mysterio had to surrender the title suddenly due to a shoulder injury. This sent back the United States title to Samoa Joe.

Last night, WWE announced a fatal-5-way match to determine the new challenger for Samoa Joe now that Mysterio is hurt. Here is the official announcement,

“One week after Braun Strowman, Ricochet, Cesaro and Bobby Lashley crashed “Miz TV” to state why they each deserved an opportunity to challenge Samoa Joe for his United States Championship, the four interrupting Superstars, along with The A-Lister himself, will compete in a Fatal 5-Way Match to determine who will challenge The Samoan Submission Machine for his star-spangled title at WWE Stomping Grounds.

Which of these five determined competitors will square off with Joe for the prestigious U.S. Title next Sunday?”

With Samoa Joe being a bonafide heel on the main roster, the expectation was a babyface star will pick up the win and challenge him at the upcoming pay-per-view. That’s exactly what happened on WWE Raw when. Ricochet picked up the win. It’s great to see a youngster like him to get a singles title shot after a long wait.
