WWE News: United States Title Match Result From Fastlane PPV
Mar 12, 2018 at 1:18 PM
The anticipation around the United States title match was quite big considering the lineup. Bobby Roode was the champion heading into Fastlane to defend. Ever since he won the title back in January, he promised to be a fighting champion. So, he dared anyone who steps against him for an opportunity to snatch his title.
Randy Orton grabbed this opportunity and went right after the champion following the Royal Rumble PPV. He attacked Roode with RKO to start the rivalry. This was because The Viper has never won the United States title in his illustrious career. So, he wanted to win it badly to become a Grand Slam winner in the company.

Seeing this, the commissioner of the brand made this match official for Fastlane which was a dream match. These two have never competed in a singles competition in the WWE. Two babyfaces fighting in a championship match is also a rare thing to witness. Plus, to make things interesting, Jinder Mahal was lurking around, as well.
Just like that, ADVANTAGE: VIPER! Will it be @REALBobbyRoode or @RandyOrton who walks into #WrestleMania as #USChampion? #USTitle #WWEFastlane pic.twitter.com/mJvlpkMgFa

Both the competitors started the match at Fastlane in an interesting fashion. They tried to finish the contest, early and tried to hit their respective finishing manoeuvres, on each other. But, none of them succeeded and had to go on for a long match. Orton received the upper hand by sending his opponent to the ringside area.

But, Roode managed to get out of the count entering the ring. The Viper delivered a perfect top rope suplex for a near fall. Roode backfired in quick time with a spinebuster on his opponent and looked to follow it up with a blockbuster off the rope. Randy Orton converted it into an RKO which was a thing of beauty. Three seconds later, he was standing as the new United States Champion with his Grand Slam goal now being achieved.

It’s back to the drawing board for @REALBobbyRoode…but he DID just lay out @JinderMahal & @RandyOrton with a #GloriousDDT!#WWEFastlane pic.twitter.com/3SD76iRX4k

However, his victory celebration did not last long due to Jinder Mahal heading into the ring and starting a physical confrontation. The champion prevailed since he was irate after losing the title. He delivered Glorious DDTs on both Randy Orton and Jinder Mahal to stand tall. It is likely that a triple threat match will be set up for the US title at Wrestlemania.
