WWE News: WWE Championship Match Announced for Royal Rumble

Arindam Paul / 03 January 2018

AJ Styles did not have a scheduled opponent for the 31st annual Royal Rumble event until last night. Well, he received a challenge, but he will not be happy either after learning the odds that he will have to face in his first championship defence in the year 2018. Daniel Bryan came up with a major shocker to end the show.

As we all knew, the WWE Champion was scheduled to face Sami Zayn in a non-title match on the main event of the show, last night. It happened as per the earlier confirmation but in a modified capacity where Daniel Bryan and Shane McMahon were standing by the ringside to ensure that everything remains under control.

But, with Kevin Owens lurking around the ringside, we can expect the least to get everything in peace. So, he turned out to be the deciding factor. The referee ejected him from ringside, but he was not willing to leave that became a distraction for Styles.

Taking the fullest advantage of it, Sami Zayn hit the Helluva Kick on the champion to earn a pinfall win. AJ was not happy at all with the differences ongoing between Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan and went on to say that he even someday put into a handicap match against Zayn and Owens.

The general manager of Smackdown did the same, as stated by the champion, as he confirmed a 2-on-1 handicap match for the WWE Championship at the Royal Rumble. It will be AJ Styles defending the title against both the heel wrestlers who had a big start in the year 2018.

With that being said, the odds are stacked against the phenomenal one, right now. The two will gang up on him to snatch the title away from him. But, considering that it is every man for himself in the title match, it will also be interesting to see how the Canadian brothers will keep their bond intact.
