At the NXT Great American Bash 2021 event, the team of Io Shirai and Zoey Stark have become the new Women’s Tag Team Champions. The big title change marked the highlight of the night as it happened following a huge return. Tegan Nox is back on NXT after a hiatus of almost ten months and this move delighted the WWE Universe to the fullest.
This week’s NXT Great American Bash 2021 special saw Shirai and Stark defeat the former women’s tag team champions Candice LeRae and Indi Hartwell to win the straps. This happened after Nox returned and caused a distraction. Nox was revealed to be the Superstar behind the recent battery charger teasers that were making way through the NXT programming for the past several weeks.

The Way – Candice LeRae and Indi Hartwell were inching closer to finish this Great American Bash 2021 title match as they were in full control of the match when the lights inside the Capitol Wrestling Center went out. The battery charger vignette hit the tron as it hit 100% on the big screen from the earlier 81% state. Nox then appeared on the stage, as the fans gave huge pop to her.

LeRae was shocked to see this as Shirai took out the champions with a dual drop-kick. LeRae was sent to the floor as Stark made the tag to Shirai. She performed her finishing move on Hartwell to get the pinfall win and thus ensuring the first tag title win for herself and Shirai. Shirai thus became the only second superstar to hold the NXT Women’s Title and NXT Women’s Tag Team Titles.
After this match at Great American Bash 2021 went off the air, Nox attacked LeRae and chased her to the back, allowing Shirai and Stark time for their post-match celebration. This is the first reign for Shirai and Stark while The Way held the titles for 59 days. They won them back on May 4 by defeating Ember Moon and Shotzi Blackheart in a Street Fight.
As reported earlier, Tegan Nox returned to in-ring action, Monday night in a pre-RAW dark match against Toni Storm. She was expected to make a surprise return at Great American Bash 2021, per those reports. Nox has been out of action since September 2020 after suffering a torn ACL, her third since 2017. She was feuding with LeRae at the time of suffering injury and that feud is likely to continue after this return.
