Great American Bash is returning to WWE television via the NXT 2.0 brand. The next special event from WWE’s third brand has now been officially announced during the NXT In Your House Specials, last night.
Unlike the latest bygone event, WWE NXT Great American Bash 2022 edition won’t be a WWE Network Specials. It will rather take place on Tuesday, July 5 at 8 PM ET on the USA Network as a regular yet themed episode. Nothing in detail was announced around this event, as of this writing.
The Great American Bash is an old-school professional wrestling event produced by WWE. The idea of this event was created by the late great Dusty Rhodes as the event’s first edition was established in 1985 and was originally produced by the National Wrestling Alliance’s (NWA) Jim Crockett Promotions (JCP) and was broadcasted on closed-circuit television. In 1988, it started a pay-per-view (PPV) run, and later that same year, JCP was rebranded as World Championship Wrestling (WCW). (sources – Wikipedia)

WWE revived the Great American Bash as a PPV event in the year 2004 as it was held exclusively for WWE’s SmackDown brand from 2004 to 2006 before brand-exclusive PPVs were discontinued in April 2007. In 2009, the event was simply renamed as The Bash, which was also the final Great American Bash broadcast on PPV. Moving on, it was replaced by Fatal 4-Way in 2010.
The Great American Bash returned in July 2012 but it was hosted as a special live episode of SmackDown. In July 2020, the event name was again revived under WWE’s NXT banner and that tradition will continue, this year, too. It’s likely that the themed episode will emanate from the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida.
