WWE NXT: Last Woman Standing, Fight Pit & More Announced

Some big announcements have come out of the latest episode of WWE NXT where gimmick matches and more were let known for weeks to follow. Next Wednesday’s show that will be the final of 2020 will feature Leon Ruff vs. NXT North American Champion Johnny Gargano, with the title on the line, marking the first title defense for the latter.

Ruff captured the title from Gargano back on November 11 which was considered to be a major upset. He then retained in a rematch on November 18. But Gargano won the title back at WWE NXT TakeOver: WarGames 2020 on December 6, in a Triple Threat that also included Damian Priest.

So, this is going to Ruff’s rematch, which was granted to him by NXT General Manager William Regal following his win over Timothy Thatcher, which came after an assist by Tommaso Ciampa.

This, in turn, has set up a gimmick match between two rivals at WWE NXT’s next special that takes place on January 6th when they air New Year’s Evil. The company announced a Fight Pit Match for that night between Thatcher and Ciampa.

Leon Ruff defeated Timothy Thatcher this week. That was a surprise win for Ruff which resulted in an NXT North American Title match next week. As mentioned above, Ciampa attacked Thatcher after his match. Then he said to Thatcher that he will see him in the Fight Pit. Later on, it was revealed that Thatcher and Ciampa will battle at New Year’s Evil in this Fight Pit.

The main event of New Year’s Evil will see Finn Balor defending his NXT Title against Kyle O’Reilly.

A Last Woman Standing match between Rhea Ripley and Raquel Gonzalez has also been announced for the WWE NXT New Year’s Evil. Gonzalez and Ripely have been feuding for weeks now. Ripley defeated Gonzalez in a singles contest at the Halloween Havoc special back in October.

This week, Ripley defeated Dakota Kai in singles action, but a big brawl broke out with Gonzalez after the match. The Last Woman Standing match was later confirmed when New Year’s Evil host Dexter Lumis showed a drawing aka poster for the match.

Roderick Strong vs. Pete Dunne will also go down, next week. Strong vs. Dunne was made official after Dunne attacked Strong at ringside on this week’s WWE NXT episode after the main event, which saw Adam Cole defeat The Velveteen Dream. Dunne is in the middle of a feud with members of The Undisputed Era for several months. It was also announced that the winners of the 2020 WWE NXT Year-End Awards will be revealed next Wednesday night.
