WWE NXT brought the final episode before the TakeOver 36 PPV waiting for this Sunday night. NXT Champion Karrion Kross had a face-off with Samoa Joe in the final segment of the night. NXT tag team championships were on the line on a night where NXT UK Champion was also in attendance. Here are the results from the show that took place at the Capitol Wrestling Center in Orlando, Florida.
– Kushida (c) vs. Roderick Strong for WWE NXT Cruiserweight Championship was supposed to be the opening match of the night but it got canceled due to Kushida not being medically cleared. The Diamond Mine faction came out and the leader Roderick Strong issued an Open Challenge, instead. Ilja Dragunov accepted it to set up an impromptu matchup.
– Ilja Dragunov defeated Roderick Strong in this match. Following a German Suplex, Ilja connected with his Torpedo Moscow move to get the pinfall win. Dragunov got busted open during the match but he still decided to call out NXT UK Champion WALTER, after the match but he didn’t come out.
– Santos Escobar told WWE NXT North American Champion Isaiah “Swerve” Scott to meet him in the parking lot alone if he wanted his grill back. The invitation appeared to be a trap as he got attacked by Legado Del Fantasma faction members. Hit Row appeared there to provide back-up to Swerve who was able to take back his grill.

– Cameron Grimes defeated Josh Briggs in a singles contest. Grimes hit his Cave-In finisher to secure the pinfall win after which WWE NXT Million Dollar Champion LA Knight attacked him and planted him with the BFT finisher.
– Zoey Stark thought her friendship with Io Shirai was improving while Io told Zoey that they are not friends and she keeps getting in touch with her since they have to defend their WWE NXT Women’s Tag Team Titles.
– InDex (Dexter Lumis and Indi Hartwell) defeated Robert Stone and Jessi Kamea in a Mixed Tag Team Match. Indi and Lumis respectively locked in The Silence submission on Kamea and Stone as Kamea tapped for the finish. Indi proposed to Dexter Lumis after the match and he accepted. The couple kissed each other to end the segment.

– WWE NXT Women’s Champion Raquel Gonzalez and Dakota Kai had a verbal exchange ahead of their title match at NXT TakeOver 36 this Sunday night.
– Carmelo Hayes defeated Duke Hudson in the semi-finals of the NXT Breakout Tournament. Hayes delivered the top rope leg drop to get the pinfall win. It will be Odyssey Jones vs. Carmelo Hayes in the Finals of the Breakout Tournament.
WWE NXT Results (17/07/21): Tag Team Title Match
– MSK (c) defeated Imperium’s Fabian Aichner and Marcel Barthel to retain the WWE NXT Tag Team Championships. WALTER and Ilja got into a brawl providing distractions to Imperium. After the match, WALTER and Ilja continued to brawl but WALTER left standing tall passing out Ilja with the Sleeper submission.
– Ridge Holland challenged Timothy Thatcher to a match for next week.
– WWE NXT Champion Karrion Kross and Samoa Joe cane face-to-face in the main event segment before their Title match at NXT TakeOver 36. They got into a brawl after a short verbal exchange. The security team tried to separate them, but they kept on fighting and eventually went through the barricade to send the show off-air.
