Making the speculations true, John Cena is indeed returning to WWE television, later this month. This big news dropped during the latest episode of Raw as WWE announced that the 16-time World Champion will return to WWE’s flagship show on June 27 in celebration of his 20-year anniversary with the company.

John Cena recently had an interview with Adam Glyn of “Adam’s Apple” where he teased his return to the WWE. He teased a couple of matches against top Raw Superstar Kevin Owens and the current United States Champion, Theory via the following comments,

“I know in WWE years, I turn 20 pretty soon, so that’s a big thing from a pretty storied class of folks. Batista, Randy Orton, Brock, we kind of all turn 20 this year. I am aware that is coming around the corner, and who knows. But it is one of those hard truths to bare, there’s a lot of cool stuff going on and I don’t want to say no to any of these opportunities that are on my doorstep. I don’t know when I will be back, but hopefully, it is soon. I’ve been gone for too long.”

John Cena first debuted in the WWE back in 2002 during the June 27 episode of Smackdown when he answered WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle’s open challenge. Despite putting up a valiant effort against the Olympic Gold Medalist, he came up short but he eventually earned the respect of the audience and the WWE locker room. Moving on, his abilities made him the franchise player of the WWE who also proceeded to enjoy one of the greatest careers in WWE history.

WWE also celebrated the 20-year anniversary of Randy Orton, recently in WWE by dedicating a week-long celebration to the 14-time world champion. Alongside him, Batista, Brock Lesnar, and John Cena also debuted on WWE’s main roster in the spring of 2002 as the course of the company year changed in due course.

John Cena has not worked in a storyline since losing to WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns at SummerSlam in August 2021. He returned on September 10 to compete in a dark main event at the SmackDown from Madison Square Garden, teaming with The Mysterios for a six-man win over The Bloodline – Roman Reigns and The Usos.
