The Bella Twins are two of the pioneers of modern-day wrestling in The WWE. They have carried the women’s division during the Divas Era before hanging up their boots and also brought some mainstream attention to the WWE product. Due to their hard work, the two were eventually inserted into the Hall of Fame, earlier this year.
Women’s wrestling, overall, witnessed massive growth as various pro wrestling companies all over the world are letting women wrestlers, tons of opportunities. WWE is often touted to have the best women’s division in the world, which led to a lot of backlashes. All of these mostly happened after The Bella Twins have left the wrestling ring but they are considered to be part of this evolution.

While speaking on Wrestling With Freddie, The Bella Twins talked about their role in the evolution of WWE’s women’s division. Brie Bella had a lot to say about how the former WWE creative team member Freddie Jr. helped out their WWE careers.
“We do give you [Freddie] a lot of credit because we were down in FCW for so long and they were like, ‘we just don’t know what to do with twins.’ We’re like, ‘seems like it writes itself.’ It was your ideas that you kept pushing that I think it made people in the company see there was something special,” said one half of The Bella Twins.
“The greatest thing was there was no social media and FCW didn’t have television, so we nobody knew Nicole and I. It wasn’t Nikki so much as it was me. They kept saying they had no idea, I had a boyfriend at the time who was like, ‘you gave up everything for wrestling, at what point do you start to give back to the people who were there for you?”

The Bella Twins were hired in FCW days
Freddie was initially involved with attempting to get The Bella Twins called up from FCW, but his ideas were constantly held back by the top creative team heads. Eventually, Nikki and Brie took matters into their own hands and gave the company an ultimatum to get elevated from their early position,
“You know, it’s interesting because we actually do give you [Freddie Prinze Jr.] a lot of credit because when we were down at FCW for so long, they were like ‘we just don’t know what do with twins,’” Brie Bella said. “We were kind of like, it seems like it writes itself, a natural gimmick, but it was your ideas that you kept pushing, that I think it made the company, a lot of people at the time see like, ‘OK, there is something special.’” (quotes courtesy Wrestling INC)
The Bella Twins also mentioned how back then there was no such social media platform to fetch attention and hence it was tough to get noticed. Despite all the drawbacks, both the sisters went on to become Divas Champions on separate occasions. Nikki also became the longest-reigning Divas Champion to create history and henceforth go into the WWE Hall of Fame during the Wrestlemania 37 weekend.
