Wrestlemania 35 is still months away in WWE PPV calendar. Preparations for the main event of the night starts way ahead of the time. While talking about the marquee match, we just can’t escape the name of the franchise player of the WWE. We are talking about none other Roman Reigns who was the regular main event guy. Currently, he is out of action to fight against Leukemia.
But WWE locked him in for the main event of Wrestlemania 35. Apparently, The Rock was the one to share the spotlight with him. A lot of speculations are up on the rumor mill about a potential return by The Rock. The most appropriate event for him to make an in-ring return is Wrestlemania. He is away from the scene since the biggest event held in 2016. Most probably, WWE could bring him back for another marquee match at the MetLife Stadium in the New York City.
His earlier rumored opponent was going to be none other than Roman Reigns. This match was an original main event choice at Wrestlemania, a couple of years ago. But lack of creative planning, as well as the schedule of The Rock, did not let it happen. Apparently, WWE officials wanted to pull the trigger on this matchup, the next time around.
Here’s what the Wrestlevotes gave updates about the planning where The Rock was the favorite to win Royal Rumble match. This would automatically set him up for the main event spot at Wrestlemania 35,
“Rumble tidbit: Plan at one point was for The Rock to win the Royal Rumble & face Roman Reigns at Mania. That’s obviously not happening. Can Rock still win it & face Lesnar? I guess. Depends what kind of agreement Rock and WWE have. Once plans changed, Rock may have reconsidered.”
Even Roman Reigns was ready for this inevitable match with his cousin. He quoted the following in the book named “Creating the Mania: An Inside Look at How Wrestlemania Comes to Life” by Jon Robinson.
“I think he’d be down with it…If it’s good for business, if it’s good for my career, I don’t see why not. If it’s all positive and he’s with it, I’ll take a slap punch, Rock-bottom me, baby…just let me kick out at two.”
Previously, The Rock put over John Cena in the main event of Wrestlemania 29. He would have done the same for Roman Reigns at the same stadium, six years later. But unfortunately, the match will not happen considering Reigns’ illness. There’s no timeline is available regarding his return to the ring.
