WWE Smackdown: Two Top Superstars Officially Become Tag Team On January 6

With only one champion ruling WWE Raw and WWE Smackdown, it’s been hard for WWE to keep their singles competitors relevant. This could be the reason that the company could have been forced to pit two top superstars from Friday Nights to book as a tag team. Interestingly, they also ended up getting an official team name.

The two concerned names are Drew McIntyre and Sheamus who are expected to act as a team over incidents from the recent episodes of WWE Smackdown. McIntyre returned to make the save for Sheamus from a beatdown from The Bloodline on the December 30, 2022, episode. Last night, the duo got the chance to challenge for the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championships held by The Usos.

Despite all their efforts, the two babyfaces failed to beat The Usos for the titles after interferences came from Solo Sikoa. Sikoa targeted McIntyre and hit him with a Spinning Solo on the barricade. The Brawling Brutes came out to neutralize Sikoa but The Usos took advantage of the chaos as they cheated their way to a pinfall win by using the ropes on WWE Smackdown.

Sheamus and McIntyre already missed a title shot on WWE Smackdown

McIntyre and Sheamus were originally set to face The Usos on the December 9 WWE SmackDown episode but the match never took place after McIntyre was pulled from the match due to a ruptured eardrum. Then on last night’s episode, the duo got the name The Banger Bros.

Both the two superstars have previously been tag team champions but not as a team. McIntyre most recently held the Raw Tag Team Championship alongside Dolph Ziggler while Sheamus is a five-time tag team champion alongside Cesaro as The Bar.

After coming up short on WWE Smackdown to become champions, McIntyre and Sheamus were attacked by The Viking Raiders once the main show was over. Erik and Ivar sent them shoulder-first into the ring post. They then took out the two former WWE Champions with two Ragnaroks (The Viking Raiders’ version of the dual powerbomb).

McIntyre and Sheamus have been teaming up since November when McIntyre joined forces with Sheamus and the Brawling Brutes to face off against The Bloodline in a WarGames match at the Survivor Series PLE. Now they are supposed to begin a feud with The Vikings on WWE Smackdown.
