WWE Smackdown full results: April 14, 2016

WWE Smackdown was taped this week from San Diego, California. The show kicked-off with the Maryse who was over flattered to introduce her husband and the present Intercontinental champion the Miz. The Miz was to host his Miz Tv and the guest on the show was none other than his wife as WWE’s “it couple” proceeded to partake in a self-serving love-fest. The duo was about to take the love-fest to a different level but was interrupted by Zack Ryder, the former IC champion. Despite the height of their conversation, Miz did not give a chance to Ryder for the championship. Instead, he headed for his scheduled match with Baron Corbin.

Baron Corbin def. Zack Ryder
Zack was unaware of his opponent the lone wolf. Despite the disadvantage, Zack fought back with a valiant effort with the monster that Corbin is. Unfortunately, that was not enough, though, as the Long Island Iced-Z ran straight into the devastating maneuver of the Lone Wolf, “end of days.” Corbin was not done obviously and started mugging Ryder after the match. Ziggler ran in to save the days for him. Ziggler was unable to connect with a superkick as the Corbin escaped.

Emma def. Paige
Te lovable girl next door image was shoved by Emma days ago and now she is here to show it off on the main roster. The Australian Superstar’s new attitude was on full display on WWE Smackdown and that was more than enough to grapple Paige’ hard hitting moves. Just when it seemed like the former Divas Champion had her opponent right where she wanted her, Emma pulled Paige’s legs out from under her, sending her face-first into the turnbuckle. She took the full advantage of the fall by pinning her one-two-three.

Enzo Amore & Colin Cassady def. The Ascension
Enzo Amore & Colin Cassady continued to show their aptitude for trash talk, running down their opponents The Ascension before their first-round matchup in the No. 1 Contenders’ Tag Team Tournament. It was the first in-ring debut for them in WWE and they took the fullest advantage and proceed to the next round of the tag team tournament. The newest member in the tag division navigated past Viktor & Konnor’s powerful attack, claiming victory after Amore hit a top-rope splash.

AJ Styles def. Alberto Del Rio
It was the first ever meeting of the Phenomenal One and the Mexican one. Del Rio made it clear prior to the WWE Smackdown showdown, that The Phenomenal One was not good enough to hang in the “big leagues.” After a hard-hitting encounter, Del Rio tried to contain the high flying Styles with his cross arm-beaker but Styles slipped out of that and rolled up the former WWE world heavyweight champion for a win.

The Vaudevillains def. ‘Goldango’
The Golden Truth was supposed to compete against The Vaudevillains in the first round of the No. 1 Contenders’ Tag Team Tournament, but prior to the match, Goldust informed R-Truth that he will tag with Fandango on WWE Smackdown. The bizarre pairing is known as “Goldango” did their best to slow down Simon Gotch and Aiden English but the dancing superstar caught red-handed with to the Whirling Devish. The Vaudevillains will next battle the Usos in the next match in the tournament.

Sami Zayn def. Chris Jericho via disqualification
Sami Zayn & Chris Jericho’s interesting showdown quickly attracted quite the crowd when Kevin Owens and Dean Ambrose each made their way down to ringside to join the SmackDown announce team. The Lunatic Fringe even promoted his new talk show “The Ambrose Asylum” on his way to the commentary table. Chaos was bound to happen and executed as expected when the brawl was taken outside as Jericho attacked Ambrose out of nowhere. Zayn then tossed Jericho on a trash talking Kevin Owens who started to deliver a beat down his former best friend, causing the disqualification. The two-on-one onslaught was cut short by a fired up Ambrose who paved the way for a Helluva Kick from Zayn. Ambrose and Zayn stood tall to end WWE Smackdown.
