WWE Smackdown full results: June 23, 2016

WWE Smackdown was taped this week from Tuscon, Arizona and kicked off with Seth Rollins in the ring who were there to cut a promo. He took sometimes to speak about his hard journey from the injury and capturing his WWE World Heavyweight Championship only to be robbed by Dean Ambrose. Then he went on to saying that in the triple threat match at WWE Battleground he will prove why he is better than his former buddies. A fired-up Rollins then went on to challenge anybody in the locker room. Dean Ambrose soon followed to turn the set into a “championship edition” of the Ambrose Asylum. Also, Sami Zayn answered the open challenge which set up a huge main event for WWE Smackdown, later in the evening.

Cesaro def. Alberto Del Rio

Alberto Del Rio accused Cesaro of costing him the Money in the Bank ladder match and sought redemption on WWE Smackdown as he took on the Swiss Superman, one-on-one. It turned to be a huge fight considering the physicality of both the competitors. In the height of the action, Del Rio tried to lock in the cross arm-breaker but Cesaro countered it to connect with the Neutralizer to pick up the win.

Sheamus def. Apollo Crews by Count-out

Apollo Crews and Sheamus picked up where they left off at WWE Money in the Bank, with Crews still on the cloud nine over his biggest victory over the Celtic Warrior at the pay-per-view. Though, this time, the result turned out to be opposite as Sheamus delivered the Brogue Kick to him right into the steel steps. Apollo Crews was unable to make it to the ring and thus handed Sheamus a count-out victory on WWE Smackdown.

AJ Styles def. Jimmy Uso

This match was a result of an earlier backstage confrontation between the Club and the Usos where the Samoan brothers questioned whether AJ Styles could win a match without the help of Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson. Styles agreed to have a singles competition against Jimmy Uso. Jimmy was on the verge to pick up a singles victory just when the Club brethren decided to show up and attack Jey Uso at ringside. Styles then finished the job with a Phenomenal fore-arm.

The New Day def. The Vaudevillains

The New Day humiliated The Superstars from the bygone Era with their, as usual, antiques before the match started. The tag team champions then picked up the win, as expected via the Midnight Hour. After the match was over, The Wyatt family appeared on the tron to tell that how New Day is going to pay for interrupting their return on Raw, this past week. They vowed once again that the New Day will fall in the near future.

Dana Brooke def. Becky Lynch

Beck Lynch was fired up than usual to show her bitter aggression on Dana Brooke after the betrayal she faced at Money in the Bank by Natalya. The Irish Lass Kicker even knocked WWE Women’s Champion Charlotte from the ring apron when she tried to distract Becky but that slight opening allowed Dana to roll Becky up for the win. The Duo then started two-on-one attack as out came Sasha Banks, once again. She locked in the bank Statement on Dana to make a huge statement on WWE Smackdown.

Seth Rollins def. Sami Zayn

WWE Champion Dean Ambrose joined the SmackDown announce team as he watched the exciting contest between the Architect and the Underdog from the Underground in the main event of WWE Smackdown. Sami Zayn gave it all to take the former champion Rollins to the limit but Rollins ultimately prevailed after delivering an emphatic pedigree to his opponent. After the contest, Rollins confronted Ambrose and delivered a cheap attack only to get countered by the current champion. Ambrose nearly hit the Dirty Deeds on him but Rollins somehow managed to escape. Ambrose stood tall to end WWE Smackdown.
