WWE Smackdown full results: Reigns-Ambrose clash? Kalisto retains, Styles-Miz collision

Arindam Paul / 05 February 2016

The opening segment of Smackdown from Memphis Tennessee saw an early encounter between the long term rivals Reigns and Rusev squaring off again on the show. Reigns were on the verge of delivering the spear to finish off the match as League of Nations members interfere and delivered an assault on Reigns. Dean made the save but hit his own brother incidentally to make things 3 on 1. Luckily reigns recovered quickly to equalize things with a steel chair and set up tag team main event later at the night.

US championship: Kalisto vs. Kevin Owens

After their encounter on RAW, Dolph Ziggler sat at ringside in between Kalisto’s title defense against Owens. In between the contest Owens even powerbombed the high flyer direct into Ziggler. Ziggler recovered quickly though to distract his brash adversary and paved the way for Kalisto to roll him up for the victory and gain momentum heading towards his title defense at WWE Fastlane.

Ryback vs. Eric Rowan

Rowan had Strowman in his corner and went to war against the new attire worn Ryback. The big guy used Rowan to knock out an interfering Strowman. This stunned Rowan long enough for The Human Wrecking Ball to finish him off with the Meathook Clothesline. Obviously, the celebration was not long enough for Ryback, thanks to the cheapshots from  Strowman.

AJ Styles vs. The Miz

After their encounter on RAW, they squared off inside the ring on Smackdown with Chris Jericho sitting on the commentary. Styles continued his winning streak against Miz by making him tap out with the Calf crasher out of nowhere. Jericho advanced after the match to challenge the newly arrived Styles for a rematch from last week’s RAW, next week on Smackdown.

The New Day vs. The Social Outcasts

Prior to their match, two teams had a verbal confrontation between them. In the final moments of their match, The New Day thwarted The Outcasts’ attempt to use the ropes for leverage to get the pin after Kofi utilized the ropes to pin Curtis Axel.

Charlotte vs. Alicia Fox

After getting pinned shockingly on RAW by Brie Bella, the Divas champion managed to get on the track by making the other Bella member tap out with the vicious figure eight leglock.

Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose vs. Alberto Del Rio and Rusev

The big question heading into SmackDown’s main event was: Will the brothers-in-arms be able to coexist in their route to the show-stopping the main event Triple threat match at WWE Fastlane after what happened earlier on Smackdown? Even one point in the match, Ambrose nearly took out Reigns off the top rope for a narrow escape. But they managed to regroup quickly to take out the frustration on the opponents and Del Rio was cleared from the ring which paved the way for Reigns to hit a huge spear on Rusev for the victory.
