Excitement was running high among the wrestling fans ahead of this week’s WWE Smackdown as one of the all-time greats, John Cena was being advertised to make his return to TV on a full-time schedule. It now appears that apart from pulling viewership on the blue brand, the veteran will also be stopping by at the upcoming WWE premium live events.

As seen on the September 1 episode (the go-home episode of tomorrow’s Payback premium live event) of WWE Smackdown, John Cena kicked things off and said that he’ll try to say thank you to the WWE fans, more than ever as they have given him 20+ years of moments.

WWE Smackdown: John Cena lays out Jimmy Uso

It was during this segment on WWE Smackdown that the Cenation Leader also announced that it’s because of the fans that he’ll wrestle for the first time in India next week at Superstar Spectacle 2023. It’s because of the fans that he’s going to be the host of the Payback 2023 edition in Pittsburgh, tomorrow.

Jimmy Uso interrupted Cena, coming out with a new theme song. Fans quickly started chanting “We want Jey” while Jimmy asked what Cena was doing there. Jimmy also bragged about fans coming to see him, not the 16-time WWE World Heavyweight Champion. Jimmy reminded how he stopped Jey from becoming corrupted like Roman Reigns and John Cena by betraying him at Summerslam 2023.

Cena responded saying “The wrong Uso quit” as Jimmy wanted to hit him with a Superkick but Cena laid him out with the Attitude Adjustment to end the segment on WWE Smackdown.

It’s to be noted that Jee Uso quit WWE Smackdown and the company as a whole, a few weeks ago to shock the WWE Universe. Then Jimmy Uso was originally planned to return, last week to comment on the happening but the segment was scrapped due to tributes to Windham Rotunda and Terry Funk.

For the time being, John Cena will be making regular appearances on WWE Smackdown but plans regarding him aren’t clear. Before this, he was last seen on WWE programming during Money in the Bank, where he took out Grayson Waller with an Attitude Adjustment. Earlier this year, Cena also wrestled against Austin Theory in a losing effort in the opening match of WrestleMania 39.
