Next week’s WWE Smackdown is going to be the final live televised edition for the year 2021, going by the recent reports. WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns will be returning to the show on FOX in the potential headliner of the show after a week’s hiatus.
Reigns did not appear on the bygone edition of WWE SmackDown as Paul Heyman noted that he was away on a one-week sabbatical to prepare himself up for the WWE Day 1 match against Brock Lesnar. He was also not there to work in a dark match and some Raw Superstars filled in for him.

In this absence, the blue brand featured angles with Lesnar and Heyman, which in turn built to more tensions between Reigns and Heyman so that some more angles could come out next week. WWE officially announced the champion for next Friday’s WWE SmackDown from the Allstate Arena near Chicago, to continue the feud with Lesnar for WWE Day 1.
Lesnar destroyed Sami Zayn and his nurses, this week while he also featured in a backstage segment to refer Heyman as his advocate. In another segment, he intimidated Adam Pearce over getting fined and suspended after WWE Crown Jewel for some relentless actions.
It was noted that The Beast will also be there, next Friday. There’s no update on whether he will be used for the December 17 taping. WWE will also tape contents for the December 24 edition on the same night. It could be possible that Reigns and Lesnar will be used strategically for the two upcoming episodes before they square off on January 1.

WWE Smackdown Women’s Title match angle to continue
The feud between Toni Storm and WE SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair is also expected to continue, next week. Storm defeated Flair in a non-title Championship Contender match, but via DQ. Flair was disqualified after she continued stomping Storm while at the turnbuckle area. This came after Flair mostly dominated the matchup.
As of now, Toni Storm has not become the official number-one contender to Flair but she should receive the title shot now, going by the stipulation. It’s possible they announce Storm vs. Flair may take place on next week’s WWE SmackDown, or likely at the WWE Day 1 pay-per-view on New Year’s Day.
