Roman Reigns is the top superstar in the WWE, today who overcame a lot of odds while reaching this position. For years now, fans have rejected him as a babyface superstar by booing him out of every arena he could have imagined. Back in his heyday as a face, he also suffered a wellness policy violation in the WWE.

It was in 2016 when Roman Reigns failed a WWE Wellness Policy test that resulted in him being suspended from the company for 30 days. While not much details were revealed behind the suspension, this led to WWE taking away the WWE World Heavyweight Championship from him. Vince McMahon was the man who took the call which resulted in a wild night in the WWE.

While speaking on his book titled MOX, Jon Moxley (better known as Dean Ambrose in WWE) talked about various aspects including the thought of returning to the WWE. Moxley demanded an ‘astronomical amount of money’ and full creative control to let that happen.

Roman Reigns himself revealed his suspension

Mox also revealed how Roman Reigns told him and Seth Rollins about his drug test failure, five years ago. Check out his words,

“Somewhere around San Bernadino, I realized something was wrong. I could read it in Roman’s face. He vaguely alluded to something, some sh*t was going down with Vince tomorrow, but I didn’t have any clue and I didn’t pry further.

Roman, fresh from Vince’s office, finds Seth and me in the locker room. Nobody else is around. He has news. We stand in a triangle. ‘You up tonight,’ he said to Seth, ‘Dean cashes in.’

Roman went on to explain that he’d be serving a 30-day suspension for a discrepancy with the wellness policy. I don’t remember saying anything.”

As noted, WWE never disclosed the exact reason for suspending Roman Reigns in 2016. But the superstar himself sent a tweet confirming the suspension and affirming that it was him who was responsible for the miserable happening of his career.

Roman Reigns won the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at Wrestlemania 32 in 2016 by defeating Triple H in the main event match of that night. The suspension caused him to drop the belt to Seth Rollins via clean pinfall at Money in the Bank 2016. Moments after the win, Dean Ambrose cashed in the MITB briefcase to win the title.
