WWE: What to Expect from this Week’s Smackdown: February 6, 2018

WWE Raw is building up the momentums heading into the Wrestlemania season and so is the blue brand of the WWE. To raise the stakes higher, WWE Smackdown Live has already confirmed two big-time matches on tonight’s episode. The first match will determine the number one contender for the WWE Championship.

The second one will itself get contested for a championship which is for the United States title. Last week, we received a new number one contender for the US title after which the title match was made official on tonight’s episode to make the card stacked. This edition will take place at the Sprint Center in Kansas City, Missouri.

This week’s main event is all set to set up the WWE Championship match for the Fastlane PPV. It is going to be a singles matchup between Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn. These two have been the best friends on the show for the past few months. So, it was an interesting decision from the Smackdown GM to announce this matchup.

WWE.com did hint the winner with the following updates,

“Zayn said that it wasn’t, but that this was his time to shine. He declared that after next week, he won’t be known as simply “Kevin Owens’ best friend;” he’ll be known as the guy who beat Kevin Owens and became WWE Champion at WWE Fastlane. Will Zayn’s predictions come true?”

It is quite certain Sami Zayn is the favourite one to win this contest and then finalise the main event of the Fastlane PPV. For the better part of 2017, AJ Styles and Kevin Owens had an intense rivalry. It is not likely WWE officials will be going for a repetitive match between these two on the road to Wrestlemania.

The other match to be contested for the United States Championship will take place between Bobby Roode defending against Rusev. Last week, the Bulgarian Brute won the contender’s spot to earn this shot. Despite Rusev having all the momentums by his side, right now, it is not likely that Roode will drop the article after just two weeks from winning it. Hence, no title change is expected on Smackdown Live.

Smackdown Women’s Championship picture is also not clear, right now which needs to be addressed. For weeks now, Charlotte Flair does not have an opponent for her title. Hence, she should receive one on tonight’s show. It is likely that the title match is going to be multi-woman contest involving Becky Lynch, Ruby Riott and more. Charlotte is set to take on Liv Morgan on tonight’s show, as per the advertisement.

The Usos were interrupted by the Bludgeon Brothers, last week which was an indication the latter mentioned team might be going to be the next contenders for the tag titles. Fallout might be arranged on this angle on tonight’s Smackdown.
