WWE/GFW News: Alberto El Patron Stripped off his GFW Championship
Aug 15, 2017 at 4:25 PM
The status of Alberto El Patron in the GFW promotion was in jeopardy for quite sometimes since suffering the accusations of domestic battery. This occurred from an incident that took place at the Orlando airport back in July. He was suspended from the promotion after the investigation began by the police.
Although the police department did not press any charges against him, the promotion was not intending to bring him back in any capacity. They were rather interested to keep him off the shows until the investigations are officially over. But, being the champion, it was not easy for the officials to organize a show. The titleholder was not around for a long time now and it created a headache for them for a long time.
So, the creative team decided to officially let us know to strip the championship off Alberto El Patron by releasing a statement. Here it is:
“GFW has concluded its internal consideration of the events surrounding the suspension of Alberto El Patron. While it is apparent that initial reports unfairly characterized El Patron’s involvement in the incident in the Orlando airport, we are nonetheless disappointed with the manner in which he dealt with this situation; we expect more decorum from all on the GFW roster, especially the World Champion.

We have communicated with El Patron about our decision to strip him of his championship title. No decision has been taken as to the date on which he will be reinstated to the roster, the conditions of which are a private matter between the company and El Patron.”
According to the reports of Pro Wrestling Sheet, El Patron was not found guilty in the airport incident and was let out of the investigation process. Rather, it was Paige against whom the charges are likely to put. In their recent conference call for the company, Bruce Prichard and Dutch Mantel also announced that they did find El Patron as the accused one but a champion with a bad image is not suitable for a global promotion.
El Patron or the former WWE Superstar, Alberto Del Rio was seen relaxing after the strip-off with her fiancée, Paige. As posted on Twitter, he was busy for a charity event for San Antonio Salvation Army.
The former WWE Champion also noted on Instagram that it was him who suggested the promotion heads not to keep him as the champion. This will be a bigger decision for them, as they can move forward without feeling the backlash from the fans.
