The IPL 7 has crossed the halfway mark and the betting houses have already had to change a lot of their betting odds for IPL 7 from their pre-tournament predictions with some of the heavy weights failing to impress in the first half of the tournament.
With what started with Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Chennai Super Kings as favorites, the betting odds for IPL 7 have tremendously stirred towards Kings XI Punjab to be the outright favorites for the IPL 7 title.
Chennai Super Kings are still there in the reckoning but having lost both of their matches against Kings XI Punjab they’ve dropped down to the 2nd spot in the betting odds for IPL 7.
In India, there’s a myth about some of the local bookies already knowing the future results and also the eventual winner. The winners of the last 2 seasons of IPL were pre-announced by some of the bookies with Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians both winning against the odds.
Infact the bookies last year leaked all the results right from the Qualifiers till the winners of the final of IPL and got them all correct.
Here’s a shot of those predictions from last year which were made long before the finals of the IPL. Though most people laughed it off, but just like 2 years ago when they got the Kolkata Knight Riders victory correct they got all these correct too.
So what’s in store for this year? With all the eyes on Kings XI Punjab to steam roll through to the title, it’d almost be a certain farce that the tournament favorite wins it? Mumbai Indians were not the favorites last season, Chennai Super Kings were. Chennai Super Kings were once again the favorites the year before that as nobody gave Kolkata Knight Riders the slightest of chances to upset the odds. It’s almost seemingly sure that regardless of what the group stages throw at us, the eventual winners are not usually the favorites.
The first season saw Rajasthan Royals, arguably the least favorites to even make it to the group stages, upset the mighty Chennai Super Kings in the finals. The 2nd season saw the then Deccan Chargers upset the favorites Royal Challengers Bangalore and ironically these two teams finished in the last two spots the previous campaign so them making the finals was in itself a surprise.
Fast forward to season 5. Where nobody gave Kolkata Knight Riders any chance of winning having finished 6th twice, 8th once and their biggest achievement was a 4th placed finish the previous season.
