IPL 7: List of cricketers with most wickets

One of the prestigious thing that a bowler can be proud of in this batsmens game is the Purple Cap that is awarded to the leading wicket taker in Indian Premier League every season. It is not so easy to pick up wickets in this format of the game as the bowler also needs to keep in track the number of runs he is giving away, which makes it even more tougher for the bowlers to attack. In the previous 6 seasons of IPL, the Purple Cap has been won by Sohail Tanvir (2008), R.P.Singh (2009), Pragyan Ojha (2010), Lasith Malinga (2011), Morne Morkel (2012) and Dwayne Bravo (2013).

Let’s take a look at leading wicket takers in this season of IPL –

Name Matches Wickets BBI Economy
Sunil Narine (KKR) 4 9 4/20 4.93
Varun Aaron (RCB) 4 8 3/16 5.66
Mohit Sharma (CSK) 5 8 4/14 6.69
Lakshmipathy Balaji (KXIP) 5 8 4/13 7.36
Sandeep Sharma (KXIP) 3 7 3/15 5.63

Sunil Narine still hasn’t won the Purple Cap at the end of the previous two seasons but he is one of those players who had the cap with most of the times during the tournament. He has started off well in this season as well, it will be interesting to see if he can take the cap home this time or give it away like previous instances. It is also interesting to see 4 Indian pacers to make it to the Top 5 list. All eyes would be on these players if they can give a new beginning to pace bowling in India.
