IPL 7: Top 5 IPL Innings

When Twenty20 cricket was introduced, it was termed as a batsman’s format. It was pretty easy for a batsman to score quick runs in T20 cricket. Now a days, the pitches are prepared flat most of the times, sizes of the boundaries were reduced and heavy bats were provided to the batsmen. So it was pretty easy for the batsmen to dominate the format. The 2014 edition of the IPL saw many devastating innings by the batsmen out of which, we present you with the Top 5 IPL innings that took place in the IPL.

Here are the Nominees for Top 5 IPL innings of IPL:

And the Top 5 Innings are:

5. Yusuf Pathan vs Sunrisers Hyderabad

Even before Kolkata Knight Riders’ clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad, the math has been done and it was told that Kolkata needed to chase the target set by Sunrisers within 15.3 overs to leap ahead of CSK in the points table and a chance to play in the qualifier 1. After put into bat, Sunrisers managed to score 160 in their 20 overs. Chasing 161 from 15.3 overs, Kolkata were off good start and lost their way in the middle overs as they were reduced to 84-5 in 9.4 overs. It was when Yusuf Pathan took charge. After getting dropped off the first ball he faced by Anirudha Srikanth, Pathan made the SRH pay and smashed them all over the park. He smashed five fours and seven sixes in his knock of 72 off 22 balls. During his innings, he became the fastest batsman to score an IPL 50. He reached his fifty in 15 balls.

4. Wriddhiman Saha vs Kolkata Knight Riders

It was a type of knock that deserved no less than a victory. After put into bat by Kolkata Knight Riders in the finals, Kings XI Punjab lost Virender Sehwag early. They were quite slow in the first ten overs. IT was when Saha took charge. He didn’t show any mercy to any bowler. He smashed everything that came his way. Even the best in the business Sunil Narine went for 35 runs in his 18 balls he bowled to Saha. He became the first batsman to score a century in the finals of IPL and led KXIP to 199 in their 20 overs with a knock of 55 ball 115 that included 10 fours and 8 sixes.

3. Virender Sehwag vs Chennai Super Kings

It was the second qualifiers between Kings XI Punjab and Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhade Stadium, Mumbai. Chennai won the toss and asked the Kings to bat. After a slow start in the first three overs, Virender Sehwag cut loose. Sehwag took the cricket fans over to the past where he batted at his best. He cut the pacers to the offside, Pulled them, hit them over their heads and showed no respite for the spinners. Sehwag reached his second hundred in IPL and got out for 122 off 58 balls. His knock included 12 boundaries and 8 sixes. His knock propelled the Kings XI to 226 n their 20 overs.

2. Manish Pandey vs Kings XI Punjab

It was the finals of IPL and KKR were given a target of 200 in 20 overs. Robin Uthappa failed to make it count this time and his Karnataka teammate took the responsibility of carrying KKR home. He started off steadily and batted with a cool head. He rotated the strikes whenever he was unable to score boundaries. He managed to sneak in seven boundaries and six sixes in is 50 ball 94 which led his side to be crowned as champions.

1. Suresh Raina vs Kings XI Punjab

After choosing to chase, Chennai Super Kings found themselves on the backfoot during the half way mark as the Kings XI Punjab piled on 226 in their 20 overs, courtesy Virender Sehwag’s 122. Chasing 227 to win, CSK lost Faf du Plessis in the second ball of the innings and Suresh Raina walked in to bat. He was spot on from the word go as he drove, pulled, lofted the Kings XI Punjab bowlers all over the park. He scored a swashbuckling 87 off 25 balls that included 12 boundaries and 6 maximums. At the end of the sixth over, CSK scored 100-1 (the previous best at that stage in a T20 match was 86) out of which 87 came from Raina. However the batsmen followed failed to score runs as CSK lost the match by 27 runs. It wasn’t a kind of knock that deserved to end on the losing side. But that’s why people call cricket a funny game.
