In the ongoing first test match against England, Indian opener Murali Vijay recorded a century and with the help of MS Dhoni’s 82, India looked for a good total on the board. But a lower middle order collapse dented their chances of posting a reasonable total. India’s new ball bowlers Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Shami Ahmed starred with the bat as the duo put on a partnership of 111 for the final wicket. With that, the duo is the second in the list of highest tenth wicket partnership for India in test matches.
133- Sachin Tendulkar and Zaheer Khan vs Bangladesh, Dhaka
The match is best remembered for Sachin Tendulkar’s highest test score of 248*. After bundling out Bangladesh for a partly 184, India looked good to pile on the runs and maximise the lead in their first innings. India lost the ninth wicket with the score on 393 and it was when Sachin and Zaheer Khan joined together at the crease. Both of them frustrated the Bangladeshi bowlers for over thirty overs. The duo share a 133 partnership in 181 balls. Zaheer’s resistance helped Sachin to reach his double hundred and overtake his previous highest score of 241. Zaheer, on the other hand scored his highest Test score of 75 in that particular innings.
111- Shami Ahmed and Bhuvneshwar Kumar vs England
Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Shami Ahmed put on a partnership of 111 in 38.1 overs. Battng at number 9, Bhuvneshwar scored his maiden fifty in test matches and the number 11 too followed his new ball partner by scoring a fifty off the very next ball. Bhuvi ended the duo’s resistance at the crease by getting out for 58. Shami remained not out on 51.
111- Hemu Adhikari and Ghulam Ahmed vs Pakistan, New Delhi
The first test match of 1952 series against Pakistan and India were crumbling at 263 for 9. Ghulam Ahmed joined Hemu Adhikari at the crease. The duo batted sensibly as they put on 111 runs for the last wicket and took India to a fighting total of 372. India eventually won the match by an innings and 70 runs.
105- Harbhajan Singh and S Sreesanth vs New Zealand, Hyderabad
India were in a spot of bother in the second test against New Zealand at Hyderabad. India were 367-9 in reply to the Kiwis’ 350 in the first innings. The match was heading towards producing a result until the centurion from the first test match Harbhajan Singh and his slapgate companion S Sreesanth held fort for the hosts. The proclaimed brothers in arms stitched together a partnership of 105 in just over 26 overs. This partnership made sure that Harbhajan got to his second Test hundred in two matches. As a result of the knock, the match ended in a draw
95- Sunil Gavaskar and Shivlal Yadav vs Australia, Adelaide
It was in the 1985-86 tour of Australia, India managed to draw all the three matches of the series. The first test match took place in Adelaide in which Australia after getting out for 381, posed a big threat for India to take a lead. Opener Sunil Gavaskar retired hurt when the score was on 97-1, came back to bat after the fall of fifth wicket. India took a slender lead of 44 at the fall of ninth wicket and Shivlal Yadav joined Gavaskar at the crease. The duo carried on India’s lead over 100 and shared a crucial 95 run stand for the last wicket before Yadav got out for David Hookes. Sunny Gavaskar carried his bat and remained unbeaten on 166.
