Asha Roy has been a forgotten hero for last couple of years. The sprinter, who created history by earning gold medals in both 100 and 200 meters in the Open Nationals Athletics championship four years ago, seems to be in great distress due to her severe back injury.

Despite the fact that Asha Roy is in the national preparatory camp for the Rio Olympics in Thiruvananthapuram now, this sprinter is not being able to train. Rather she has preferred to hide herself in her room at the SAI hostel.

After being repeatedly asked about her condition, Asha finally languished, explaining over the phone from Thiruvananthapuram, “Even two years ago, in 2013 I earned silver medal in the Asian Track & Field championship. But my condition deteriorated after that when I started training at the Kolkata SAL campus. I had little pain during that time but I did not care. And that caused the severe blow for me.”

Chief national coach in the sprinting Tarun Saha also told over phone, “I regret for Asha as she was potential. But due to the injury it would not be possible for her to compete in the forthcoming competitions for qualification of Rio Olympics.”
