Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) clinched a thrilling victory in their opening game of IPL 2017 on Thursday night. It was the match between Rising Pune Supergiant and Mumbai Indians (MI) at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune, where RPSG decided to bowl first after winning the toss.
Mumbai Indians scored 184/8 at the end of first innings.
In reply, Pune chased down the target in 19.5 overs, after losing just three wickets. Steven Smith led Pune won the match by seven wickets.

- In the final over of Mumbai Indians’ batting, RPSG pacer Ashok Dinda conceded 30 runs. It is the most number of runs conceded by a bowler in the 20th over of an IPL innings. The previous record holders were David Hussey (Kings XI Punjab; against Mumbai Indians at Mumbai on 29th April 2013) and Rahul Shukla (Delhi Daredevils; against Royal Challengers Bangalore at Bengaluru on 13th May 2014), who had conceded 27 runs in the 20th over of the IPL innings.
- MI batsman Hardik Pandya remained unbeaten on 35 runs in just 15 balls with an outstanding strike rate of 233.33. It is the second highest strike rate in an innings by a batsman against RPSG. The highest strike-rate record in an innings against RPS is 276.92 by Shane Watson (Royal Challengers Bangalore) at Bengaluru on 7th May 2016.
- RPSG pacer Ashok Dinda was very expensive in this match as his bowling figures were 4-0-57-0. It is the most runs conceded by an RPSG bowler in a match. Ishant Sharma was the previous record holder with 0/47 bowling figure (4-0-47-0) against RCB (Royal Challengers Bangalore) at Pune on 22nd April 2016.
Also, it was the fourth time in IPL history when Ashok Dinda conceded 50 or more runs in a match.
- RPSG skipper Steven Smith played a brilliant match-winning knock of unbeaten 84 runs. It is the second highest individual score by an RPSG batsman. The record of 101 by Steven Smith against GL (Gujarat Lions) at Pune on 29th April 2016 is the highest.
- Chasing the target 185 runs, RPSG successfully completed that in 19.5 overs, after losing just three wickets. It is the highest runs chased down by RPSG. Their previous record was chasing 173 runs target (173/6 in 20 overs) against KXIP (Kings XI Punjab) at Visakhapatnam on 21st May 2016.
- This victory was the first victory for RPSG at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium (Pune).
