Shawn Michaels is considered as the greatest technical wrestler to ever step foot in the WWE ring. He spent over two decades in the company to earn the name of Mr Wrestlemania by putting up spectacular performances, consistently.
His legendary career came to an end after he lost the match against The Undertaker at the Wrestlemania 26 in 2010. Since he was on top of his game at that time, it was speculated for numerous occasions that he will return for one more match.
The speculations went wild when this year’s Royal Rumble PPV was hosted in his hometown of San Antonio, Texas. As per the previous reports, Vince McMahon gave him the proposal to feature him in a dream match against AJ Styles. The later one was the reigning WWE champion at that time meaning this match would have been contested for the title.
However, Shawn Michaels never accepted the proposal and stayed away from wrestling capacity. Recently, in a WWE Network exclusive, Table For 3, he appeared in a discussion with AJ Styles and Kevin Nash. He revealed on the episode named “Common Bonds” why he turned down the offer made by the Boss.
As per his statements, he is happy how his career ended at Wrestlemania 26. He had everything in the illustrious stint which might be harmed if shows up again and goes for a failed attempt.
At this point, Styles is much younger than him. He was the reigning champion and there’s no way that WWE would have stripped him of the title. Michaels would basically be used for a putting over purpose at the Rumble.
So, HBK clarified that he did not want to lose in his returning match, as well. Check out the excerpts of his statement from the show:
“When we finally got the chance to be talking at The Rumble, I said, you’re (AJ Styles) a bright young man. That’s tremendous. Clearly, Old Man River here, I appreciate it because you’re keeping my name out there.’ But the thing is, in all the years, there has always been speculation about whatever, me coming back, it has never gotten so high as to where different writers or this person or producer, have asked. But for the first year ever, this is the first time Vince (McMahon) asked.”
“I’d do (Styles) no favours and I’ve given (Nash) my best. There’s absolutely no way at 51, I’d (be my best level). Again, just because you can still do it, I still can’t do it at the level that I did, I don’t think.”
