New Zealand Women comfortably sealed two-point after securing an easy victory against West Indies Women in the 2017 ICC Women’s World Cup clash on Thursday at County Ground (Taunton).
After deciding to bowl first, New Zealand Women bowled out the Caribbean team for only 150 runs in 43 overs. Chasing down the target, New Zealand Women lost only two wickets as they reached the total in just 18.2 overs.
The dismal batting show continues from the Caribbean Women in this match. After getting bundled out for only 48 runs in their last game against South Africa Women, the last World Cup runners-up made only 150 runs in this game. During this 150-run innings, four players were dismissed for the duck while Kyshona Knight was the highest runs scorer in that innings with a fighting 41-run knock. Once again, their batting was never looking comfortable against the opponent bowlers.
On the other hand, two Kiwi opening bowlers, Lea Tahuhu and Leigh Kasperek led the bowling attacks which were properly followed by the next bowlers. All the Kiwi bowlers picked up at least one wicket each while Lea (3/39) and Leigh (3/17) took three wickets each.
Kiwi players also dominated against the Caribbean bowlers during their innings. Openers Suzie Bates and Rachel Priest put a perfect start which was denied any possibility of the shocking script of the match. The openers put a 120-run partnership for the first wicket as Rachel missed her third ODI century for just 10 runs. Before getting out, Rachel played a furious 90 runs knock off 55 balls with 17 fours and 2 sixes.
Meanwhile, the other opener Suzie remained steady at the crease until the end as she remained unbeaten for 40 runs as New Zealand Women won this match by 8 wickets with 190 balls to spare.
This victory just not added 2 points for New Zealand Women, also raised their net run-rate which is similarly important to qualify for the semifinal of this tournament.
