One of the main events for this year’s Summerslam was the WWE Championship match from Smackdown Live. Jinder Mahal defended the title against Shinsuke Nakamura in a major confrontation. It was the first time that these two superstars were up and against each other.
There were several reports before the match that stated Nakamura was the favourite to emerge as the new WWE Champion after Summerslam. He started on a similar note, as well as a special violin entrance was reserved for him with his favourite violin player.
The Artist also dominated the match for the most part. However, the finish was owned by the Modern-Day Maharaja, yet again. The Singh Brothers came up handy, as expected earlier. While going for the Kinshasa, Nakamura was prevented by them.
It allowed Jinder to connect with the Cobra Clutch Slam to Nakamura which is also known as The Khallas to get the pinfall. It is the similar fashion that the championship was defended by Jinder against Randy Orton for a couple of times.
According to the reports from SportsKeeda.com, the decision of keeping Jinder Mahal as the champion was taken at the very final moment. The reason behind this was that the creative team wanted this feud to continue until the Hell in a Cell PPV in October. Hence, the title change was not needed, sooner.
Also, the officials do not think that giving Nakamura the title will be right, now. He needs to pick up more momentums before holding the most prestigious title in the company. For the last few weeks, he was not able to build up a bad blood with Jinder that can fire up the feud. So, the rivalry is continuing until the next Smackdown-exclusive PPV.
As per the previous reports, WWE intended to keep Jinder as the champion until September since an India tour might take place. Till date, that has not been confirmed, yet. With the title reign continuing, we can expect this to happen if WWE wants. However, no earning enough profits from the subcontinent might cancel the tour.
