Manchester United had to cross one more name from their target list when Atletico Madrid striker Mario Mandzukic landed in Turin last night to complete his medical with the Serie A champions Juventus.
Manchester United are in a bit of striker crisis at the moment with Radamel Falcao already shipped out and future of Javier Hernandez and Robin Van Persie is looking bleaker and bleaker as the days are passing by.
With the strikers seeking the exit doors, Mandzukic was seen as the ideal man to bring flurry of goals at Old Trafford. However, the Croatian is all set to join Juventus in a rumored €18million move.
Mandzukic only joined the La Liga side last summer in a €22million move. Despite the initial run of games filled with goals, the Croatian failed to adapt to life at Atletico and in the process fell out with his manager and coaching staff at Madrid.
Coach Diego Simeone went on to reveal how easily Mandzukic irritates and annoys him. Such comments were bound to force an exit for the striker and so he has moved on to join the Serie A Champions.
What Mandzukic will bring to Juventus?
Despite his falling out with Atletico Madrid, no one can deny the sheer goal scoring ability that Mandzukic has and that will be key to Juventus’ hopes of achieving an even better season that the last one.
Mandzukic is being brought as a direct replacement for Carlos Tevez, who has his heart set on a move to Boca Juniors. Apart from Mandzukic, Juventus have two young strikers in Alvaro Morata and Paolo Dybala.
On the face of it, it seems Mandzukic will start most of the games with either Dybala or Morata starting in his support considering how Masimilanio Allegri has looked to operate with two strikers up front.
