Feroz Shah Kotla Stand Named After Legendary Bishan Singh Bedi 1

Continuing its recently-started tradition of honouring its former cricketing stalwarts, Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA), on Wednesday (November 29), named one of the stands at Feroz Shah Kotla after legendary spinner Bishan Singh Bedi.

Recently, the cricket association had honoured Virender Sehwag and Ashish Nehra to recognise their contribution to the game. The main entrance of the Feroz Shah Kotla stadium was named the ‘Virender Sehwag Gate’ while one end in the ground was named the ‘Ashish Nehra end’ when the left-pacer played his final international game in his hometown.

On Wednesday, the former Indian women’s cricket team captain Anjum Chopra also revealed the stadium’s Gate No. 3 and 4, which were named after her. Chopra had represented India in six World Cups and is also the first Indian women cricketer to play 100 One-Day Internationals.

Meanwhile, Angad Bedi, son of Bishan Singh Bedi, took to Twitter to express his delight after the stand got named after his father. Posting a picture of the stand with his father’s name written on it, Angad tweeted:

“The @BishanBedi stand inaugurated at the delhi&district cricket association. #ddca #cricket. #proud ?✊ yes im #Bishansinghbedi son and im very proud to be one.?.”

One of the greatest spinners to have played for India, Bedi represented the country in 67 Tests and 10 One-Day Internationals between 1967 and 1979. He finished his international career with 266 Test wickets and seven ODI wickets in addition to picking up a staggering 1560 first-class wickets, more than any other Indian bowler.
