On November 25th, WWE brought back the Starrcade event on its calendar. It was after 17 long years that the company hosted the event.
Originally, it was the biggest event that used to be organised by the WCW promotion that was taken over by Vince McMahon at the beginning of this millennium. The show took place in the same venue of Greensboro Coliseum where the first-ever Starrcade show was hosted.
A stacked match card was waiting for the fans in attendance with two steel cage matches. Unfortunately, WWE did not broadcast it live on the WWE Network. Instead, it was just a house show with multiple big names in the house from past and present. Names like Ric Flair, Arn Anderson, Ricky Steamboat graced the show with their presence.
It turned out to be a packed house for the returning show with a great audience from North Carolina chanting for the superstars. Apart from the championship matches, there were a plethora of memorable moments in the rest of the matches including Arn Anderson coming out of retirement and hitting Dolph Ziggler with a spine-buster.
Apparently, the show managed to impress both the critics and the fans, together. According to the reports of PWInsider.com, the fans in attendance were great, unlike the other shows. In fact, it was said to be the best in numbers in Greensboro in a long period. It left a buzz around the WWE Universe that made the show a major success. The social media was going ga-ga over it, as well.
Considering this, the company might want to bring the show back to its calendar, yet again, this year. This time around, we can hope to see it in a telecasted format since we have not been able to feel such an iconic show from the bygone age of pro-wrestling.
The main event of Starrcade witnessed AJ Styles defending his WWE Championship against Jinder Mahal inside a steel cage. He retained his title which forced Jinder not to visit India with the coveted prize in hand. In the other main event title match, Charlotte Flair defeated the bitter-rival Natalya in another steel cage match. The Flair received a standing ovation from her home crowd.
