Summerslam will consist nine championship matches on the card. This year, the presence of the part-time superstars are less on the show. Hence, WWE will use these matches to sell out the biggest event of the summer. Two of these matches will decide the fate of the women’s championships.
Both the WWE Raw and Smackdown women’s championships will be on the line at Summerslam. Alexa Bliss will have Ronda Rousey in her way as a massive roadblock. Carmella from Smackdown will have to defend her title against two superstars. Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch will throw the toughest challenge to her to date.
Speculations are high about the outcomes of these two matches. Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Newsletter came up with an update about these in his recent report. Apparently, the champions’ status after Summerslam is in jeopardy. Chances are high that we could see new title-holders.
Meltzer stated the planning of the Evolution PPV would affect the outcomes of Summerslam. The officials do no think Alexa Bliss or Carmella to headline the all-women PPV with the championships. So they are likely to take the titles away from them. It is what he predicted, (courtesy SportsKeeda.com),
“According to Meltzer, the problem is that Bliss and Carmella just aren’t capable of headlining an all women pay per view and WWE would be much better off going with new champions. Not only does that freshen up the title scene for the upcoming pay per view, but it also allows bigger names then Bliss and Carmella to headline the big show.”
It would not hamper the status of Alexa Bliss on the WWE roster. She had already become one of the strongest champions of all time. The fact that WWE handed over the title to her was to put over Ronda Rousey at Summerslam using her. The fans know this very well from the get-go. So this should not affect Bliss’ career at all.
But Carmella might go down in the food chain if the title does not belong to her. Storyline writing for the current champion made her one of the strongest heels on the roster. But once she drops the title, her status will surely go downwards.
The Princess of Staten Island has to go back in her jobber days again. But Charlotte or Becky Lynch would be a far better champion than Carmella from a creative standpoint.
