The New Day is the longest reigning tag team champions in WWE history. They have a 478-day long title run that started in Summerslam 2015 and ended in Roadblock 2016. They are also the most popular faction in this modern era of wrestling. It will not be wrong to say that they are carrying the traditions that the Dudley Boyz or The Hardy Boyz have set in the past.

The New Day spoke on turning into heels

Currently, The New Day is one of the biggest attractions on the Smackdown roster. WWE handed them five tag team championship reigns to cement their legacy already. Their connections with the young fans is a must-mention which keeps the merchandise sells high, all the time. This is one of the big reasons why Vince McMahon did not want to break the faction, at all.

Names like Kofi Kingston or Big E have the potentials to break out into the solo superstars’ scene, any day. Both of them have been former Intercontinental or United States Champions in the WWE prior to becoming a tag team. They could have gone back to pursuing those gold, as per the earlier speculations. That did not happen as they kept the bond intact. But the rumor is back once again hinting Vince McMahon has something in mind for them.

Bryan Alvarez hinted the same on Wrestling Observer’s Filthy Four Daily with Tom Lawlor. Fans might be finding the fun antics of The New Day stale for sometimes. Hence, the Boss wants to “switch up” the trio, again. He showed personal interests to change characters for them, as per the following statements from the source, (courtesy ringsidenews.com)

“I guess Vince is back thinking about switching up The New Day again. He thought about it a year ago and did nothing and now he’s thinking about it again.”

Alvarez did not specify what this ‘switch up’ phrase can actually mean. There can be a heel-turn in-store for the tag team where they intend to pursue individual gold. This might be the reason why three of them has announced their entries into the Royal Rumble 2019 match.

Furthermore, the source also clarified that Vince McMahon can scrap this idea anytime he wants,

“The act has been the same for years and years and years and there could be some changes to The New Day in 2019. Before you go on the internet and write big stories about that just remember that this is Vince and he changes his mind on a daily basis, but last week he was thinking about doing something different with The New Day.”

McMahon continues changing his mind on different storylines, on a regular basis. So it is yet to be seen whether he pulls the trigger for The New Day in due course.
