The ringleader, boss man of the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) – Vincent Kennedy McMahon (Vince McMahon) was born in the wrestling world, handling the business while also playing an in-ring role.

Born on 24th August 1945, the younger McMahon is the third-generation promoter after his grandfather – Roderick James McMahon Sr. (aka Jess McMahon) founded The Capitol Wrestling Corporation in 1952.

Later, Vincent McMahon Sr. took over the company from Jess and changed it into the World Wrestling Federation (WWF). Vince McMahon worked for his father as a commentator in WWE before he assumed the total control of the company in 1982.

Vince McMahon Early Life

After the divorce of his parents, Vince McMahon moved in with his mother – Victoria Askew, and the then-stepfather Leo Lupton to live in a trailer park in North Carolina. During this time of his life, Vince claimed that he was physically abused by his stepfather for a long as he was the only child in the family to stand up for himself and his mother.

Even though he would see his father McMahon only during summertime and other occasions, the senior McMahon paid for his military school after Vincent left the trailer park at the age of 14.

Mr. McMahon was highly influenced by his father Vince McMahon Sr. who was the then-promoter of WWF. He accompanied his father on the trips to Madison Square Garden, becoming interested in following his father’s professional wrestling footsteps.

After graduating from East Carolina University with a business degree, McMahon joined WWF as the in-ring announcer after which he was assigned a small territory in Maine in 1971.

Over the following decade, McMahon became a prominent force in the company and assisted his father in tripling the TV syndication. It was Vince who convinced his father to rename the company to the World Wrestling Federation (WWF).

In 1979, Vince and his wife Linda founded their own company – Titan Sports while acquiring the control of the CWC from his ill father in 1982.

Vince McMahon Wrestling Career

During the senior McMahon’s time period, the promoters had an understanding to not indulge in each other’s business and expand their business in the other promoters’ territories.

The younger McMahon, however, had a different vision for the company. In the 1980s, he began hiring wrestlers from the other territories – introducing Hulk Hogan in 1984 from the American Wrestling Association who later became the flag-bearer and the face of the company. McMahon transformed WWE from a regionally –run business into a national juggernaut.

In the 1990s, McMahon launched the famous Attitude Era which highlighted his legendary rivalry with “Stone Cold” Steve Austin. Following the feud with Austin, WWF suddenly started gaining audience and viewers – especially on its weekly Monday Night Raw broadcasts, which ranked among the highest-rated shows on cable television.

He continued arriving as the on-screen commentator through the Golden Era and also towards the end of the New Generation Era where the real-life Montreal Screwjob incident introduced him as ‘Mr. McMahon’. He was then famous as the evil Mr. McMahon as he became involved with the WWF storylines.

Vince McMahon WCW and ECW

After this, Mr. McMahon, the real-life gimmick, McMahon went on to become one of wrestling’s all-time greatest heels while the Attitude Era introduced millions of viewership for the edgy and adult content being produced.

Following the success of WWF, McMahon successfully took over their arch-rivals World Championship Wrestling (WCW) – buying it and ECW in 2001.

McMahon has been the core entertainment in the WWE Universe – clashing with D-Generation X, Randy Orton, Bret Hart, and even feuding with his own children, Shane, and Stephanie McMahon. He has been blown up, buried beneath an exploding stage, and shaved bald while also being revealed as the illegitimate father of Hornswoggle.

In 1999, McMahon’s daughter, Stephanie turned on him during his feud with Triple H who had just married Stephanie. After losing the No Holds Barred Match against Triple H, Mr. McMahon and his son Shane McMahon disappeared from WWF television. Then, Stephanie and Triple H took complete control of the WWF.

Since then, his appearances on WWE television have been rare, appearing time and again, before and after Survivor Series 2014, his brief feud against Roman Reigns at the end of 2015, a rivalry with Shane McMahon in 2016, his assault at the hands of Kevin Owens in 2017 and suspending Roman Reigns on RAW in 2018.
