Wrestlemania in 2014 will always be a black day in the world of pro-wrestling. The Undertaker lost the greatest streak present in the history of sports entertainment. Brock Lesnar did the unthinkable by beating The Phenome in his own yard which has become synonymous with him. It was a black-listed day in the WWE following that incident.
Vince McMahon not happy with Undertaker
Huge update on The Undertaker on Wrestlemania 35 status
But a recent report has suggested that this day could have come much earlier than initially thought. Brock Lesnar was part of the UFC promotion back in 2010-2011 when Vince McMahon planned to put him against The Undertaker. But the negotiations did not even happen since UFC President did not want wish to do it.
How much Undertaker receives from appearances?
Back in 2010, The Undertaker visited one of the UFC pay per views to witness a match featuring Brock Lesnar. Once the contest was over the former UFC Heavyweight Champion had a confrontation with the Deadman of the WWE. They had a heated conversation pointing out a future contest. Vince McMahon was willing to cash on this to set up a mega match.
When it comes to garnering mainstream attention, WWE can do anything about it. Back then, at the beginning of last decade, the product has not gone that much of mainstay extent. So Vince McMahon was hell-bent on putting on a match with the cross-brand stamp on it. People would have talked about it for a long time.
As per the reports of Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE always wanted to set up a match between Undertaker and Brock Lesnar at Wrestlemania 27. But UFC President did not give a positive nod on it. Even Vince McMahon thought of making the match a sure-shot reality until it was scrapped, altogether. Here’s more from stillrealtous.com,
“Vince thought Dana White had approved the idea, but when he called Dana, Vince was informed that Dana didn’t know about the match. Vince was under the impression that the match had already been cleared which is why Taker was sent to the pay-per-view. The Undertaker had reportedly received his ticket from Dana White, but Dana didn’t approve the match.”
The Undertaker received Triple H as the backup opponent at Wrestlemania in 2011. It actually created a storyline that continued for over a year to culminate a Hell in a Cell match in 2012. WWE billed that as the End of an Era match that was probably the best performance of the Phenome in his entire career.
