It has been a brilliant season for Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League 2019 but certainly, not the day, they would have expected, especially, at that stage of the tournament. They were outdone by Chennai Super Kings in all sections of the game. Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer sheds light on the loss.

It was Chennai Super Kings right throughout the game. Firstly, they started well on a batting wicket with the ball and then delivered the goods with the bat to seal the final spot in the Indian Premier League 2019. Now, they will lock horns against Mumbai for the final showdown.

There were no Partnerships – Shreyas Iyer

Speaking of the loss, Shreyas Iyer quoted that the powerplay hasn’t gone down well for the team, which saw them lacking behind in the game. He feels that they missed stitching partnerships, which ended them on the wrong side of things.

”We didn’t have as many runs as we expected. Had a disappointing start in the Powerplay and we knew that they have good spinners, so it got tough. We thought the wicket would help us as we played a game already over here but none of the batsmen took the responsibility to bat through. There were no partnerships. Good learning for us. It’s something to think about. Home games didn’t go that well for us. We can’t complain though,” Shreyas Iyer said.

On captaincy stint:

Speaking of the captaincy role, Shreyas Iyerquoted that it is a great feeling to stand alongside the likes of MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma during the toss. He also enjoyed the pressures that the captaincy has put on him.

”Looking at the likes of MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma leading their teams and also standing with them at the toss, I have been fortunate to learn things. As captain, I am glad about the support of the owners and the management. There is pressure as you have to be involved in lot of decisions,” Shreyas Iyer added.

Proud of my team:

Finally, he expressed his delight for the team, who did brilliant enough to make things fall in place for the team. The young unit has done incredibly well to finish on the third in the tournament.

”Totally proud of my team, we did really well to come this far. Been a dream season for us and this is just a start. Time to grow further,” Shreyas Iyer concluded.

Despite the loss in the Qualifier-2, Delhi Capitals have got all the rights to walk with their head high. In the end, they continue to remain the only team to stay away from the finals over the years.
