Virat Kohli created history early this year when India defeated Australia on their home soil in the four-match Test series. It was the first time in 70 years that India won a Test series in Australia. Also, India became the first Asian team to defeat Australia in Australia (In Test series). In ODIs as well, India defeated the home side and came back with Test and ODI trophies.

Right from taking over the captaincy in all the formats, Kohli has been doing a great job and the captaincy role has not had an impact on his batting as well. He continues to break records across formats and has been the top batsman for India.

He has also been given ample rest in past few years, that has sometimes led to talks of Rohit Sharma being given captaincy in the T20I format on a regular basis. Virat’s deputy in the limited-overs format, Rohit has also led Mumbai Indians to four IPL victories while Virat hasn’t led Royal Challengers Bangalore to a title victory despite leading the team since 2013.

Rajkumar Sharma, the childhood coach of Virat Kohli, though does not believe that there is a need for split captaincy. “There is no reason for India to look for anyone else… T20s and ODIs are different and I cannot even think of comparing IPL and international cricket,” he told Hindustan Times.

Under Rohit, India won Nidahas Trophy and Asia Cup 2018, where Kohli was rested. For now, it is no doubt that Kohli will continue to led team India across formats and there is no chance that the selectors will also look to Rohit Sharma for the T20I captaincy on a regular basis.

Presently, Kohli is leading team India in World Cup 2019, his maiden World Cup as the captain. He was the part of 2011 and 2015 World Cup teams, where MS Dhoni was the captain of the side. Dhoni will now be playing under Kohli.

This is the second ICC tournament where Kohli is leading Men in Blue. Under him, India made it to the finals of ICC Champions Trophy 2017.
