Former India batsman and veteran cricket coach, Pravin Amre has thrown his hat in the ring to be team India’s batting coach as he has applied for the high-profile job, a report in India Today suggests. Amre is considered to be one of the best coaches in the cricketing circle who helped a number of cricketers to make their comeback to the Indian cricket team.

Robin Uthappa, Suresh Raina, Dinesh Karthik and many others have worked with the former India batsman and he is all set to give a strong competition to Sanjay Bangar, the assistant coach of Indian cricket team.

Recently, he took over as the batting coach of USA cricket team. He is also associated with IPL franchise Delhi Capitals and has also worked with Pune Warriors India. It was under Amre’s tutelage that Unmukt Chand-led India U-19 won the World Cup for the third time in 2012. Hanuma Vihari, a member of that World Cup-winning team, is now a member of India’s Test squad.

Many reports have suggested that Bangar is unlikely to be retained as the assistant coach and in that case, Amre can win the race to take over the job.

Apart from Amre, only J Arun Kumar is another candidate in the race. The former Karnataka batsman and coach, J Arun Kumar was also associated with Kings XI Punjab in IPL 2017.

The last date to apply for various posts is July 30th and till now, Bangar is facing competition from these two candidates.

The present coaching staff will tour with the team to USA and Caribbean islands for the upcoming series as BCCI gave them an extension of 45 days. The process to appoint new coaches will begin soon.
