Following the ICC World Cup 2019 campaign, Virat Kohli-led Team India will face Windies from August 3. India will play three T20Is, as many ODIs and two-match Test series until September 3, 2019. With India vs Windies 2019 series seen as an opportunity for the youngsters, former Indian cricketer VVS Laxman has suggested few things for the Men in Blue.

As of now, India are set to play the opener of T20Is at Lauderhill Florida, with Kohli aiming to begin their campaign on a high post-semi-final loss against New Zealand.

On the eve of the T20 fixture, Laxman is happy with India’s batting department. However, he had suggested a couple of things for the visiting team to work on.

Pertinently, considering the bowling unit, it looks falling short of experience despite having big guns in the squad.

Laxman urges Kohli to go with extra bowler:

Meanwhile, Laxman had suggested Kohli should introduce an extra bowler for the first T20I. He conceded that it will help India in a bid to make things happen on a bright note.

“I feel they will still have to bide their time because I would prefer the extra bowling option for Virat to fall back on,” Laxman wrote in his column for the ToI.

Also, he started that Shikhar Dhawan’s return will benefit Team India’s batting unit. Earlier, Dhawan had faced an early exit during the World Cup following his thumb fracture.

“The return of Shikhar Dhawan from injury restores quality and firepower to the batting, which looks both settled and strong,” Laxman further wrote.

Meanwhile, he is keen to see KL Rahul backing himself at the No. 4 spot. However, Kohli will play at his preferred number three position.

Laxman keen to see Pant’s approach:

Also, the veteran cricketer is hopeful about Rishabh Pant’s good show. In the meantime, Pant is touted as the successor of star wicketkeeper-batsman, MS Dhoni, who’s currently posted in Kashmir as the part of his two-month army training.

“I would love to see KL Rahul get a chance to extend his good form of the World Cup and bat at No. 4, and watch with keen interest how Rishabh Pant goes, now that he is a certainty across formats,” Laxman added.

Also, while speaking about Manish Pandey and Shreyas Iyer, Laxman believes the duo need to wait a bit more in a bid to make it to the eleven.

“Manish Pandey and Shreyas Iyer have broken open the doors to selection with a string of top performances. But unfortunate as it might seem. I feel they will still have to bide thier time.” Laxman concluded.

Laxman has himself played ten matches against the Windies. He averaged 38 after scoring 339 runs for India in ODIs.
