The Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) is looking to rely on newly-laid policies. So, it’s highly likely that the two senior cricketers Mohammad Hafeez and Shoaib Malik will lose their central contracts for the upcoming financial year.

On Thursday, PCB might not have reached to the conclusion, but the authority regarding new contract contracts has addressed limiting the list of contracted players.

Also, the board will further discuss the implementation for the next fiscal year any time soon with a new structure for central contracts being in the pipeline for some time now.

According to the source as per the Press Trust of India, the list for centrally contract players will be around 18 to 20.

Earlier, the PCB had offered contracts to a maximum of 33 players.

“One thing is clear that the board will not be offering 30 to 33 players the new contracts. And the list of contracted players is going to be cut down to around 18 to 20,” the source revealed it to the PTI.

Also, the source maintained that even Junaid Khan might miss out on the contract list. The fast-bowler Junaid has last played for Pakistan in May 2019. However, he missed out for his spot for the recently-held ICC World Cup 2019 with Wahab Riaz making it to the final 15.

“It seems unlikely that Shoaib Malik, Hafeez, Junaid, and some others will get these central contracts now,” the source added.

Well, Malik, who had set his focus on T20 cricket, has announced his ODI retirement before featuring in the twelfth edition of the World Cup.

Besides, the source reiterated that Hafeez is at the fag end of his career. Eventually, it saw Junaid being marred by injuries.

“The board also doesn’t feel that Hafeez has a long time ahead of him. Since he has also said goodbye to Test cricket. Also, Junaid Khan’s fitness has been a matter of concern for some time now,” the source concluded.

Meanwhile, Pakistan will tour Australia for the three-match T20Is and two-match Test series. The series will commence with the first T20I from November 3 at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).
