On Friday (27th September), Cricket Australia (CA) has confirmed their Test tour of Bangladesh as they will play a two-match Test series in that tour in June-July 2020.

The two-match Test series between Bangladesh and Australia will be the part of ICC World Test Championship 2019-21. After the recently concluded Ashes 2019, the Bangladesh tour will be Australia’s second away Test tour under the ongoing Test Championship.

According to the initial FTP schedule, Australia would tour Bangladesh for the Test series in February 2020. But recently both boards decided to move the Test series due to fixture congestion.

Peter Roach, the CA’s head of cricket operations, feels delighted after confirming the reschedule of their Test tour of Bangladesh.

He claimed, “We are delighted to be touring Bangladesh in June 2020. The two boards felt this was a more beneficial timing for the two Test series than the original date. It should be a terrific series.”

It will be the first Test assignment between Bangladesh and Australia after September 2017. In August-September 2017, Bangladesh hosted two-match Test series against Australia. Bangladesh created history in the first Test at Dhaka after beating Australia for the first time in Test cricket. The hosts won that thrilling match by 20 runs.

However, the visitors saved that series finally by winning the second and final Test at Chittagong by seven wickets. That series finally ended with the 1-1 margin.

“Initially, we were expecting to host Australia for a two-match Twenty20 International series in October, but now they have agreed to play three T20 internationals and it will be played ahead of the World T20 in India, though we are yet to finalise the date.”
